KC1 keychain light is available now

Hi, I’m afraid there is no shipping service to Belarus and Russia for now.

I was just suggesting the DW4 with SST-20 660nm to a friend for darkroom use. I’m curious as to why the boost driver can’t be used with those emitters. Vf too low?

The quartet has arrived!

  • Impressions so far: SST-20 DR are extremely red (duh, I know, it’s my first time though).
  • A pleasant surprise is the boost driver’s moonlight (1/150), it’s wavering and fluctuating a bit but overall it gets much lower down than the dual channel linear, almost comparable to PL47G2, the queen of moonlight (out of my collection at least).
  • Headband feels nice, turns out it actually works better for me with the easily removable top strap off. The neverending plight of us planet-headed.
  • Tailcap magnet is hecka strong, the DW4 can hold itself horizontal on a round steel horizontal pipe (wow!).
  • Looks like KR4 clip will work though to make proper contact when installed between tube and head, solder blob or a ring of wire would need to be added onto the driver PCB, same with the tail end, or, more likely, I’ll 3D print a spacer to fit between tail PCB and the cap. Of note is that the KR4 clip will kill tailstanding.
  • Speaking of tailstanding- there is no flat spot opposite the optics so the DW4 will roll and not remain pointing up on its own.
  • The head does not protrude forwards, turns out protruding head is useful in preventing fingers from partially obstructing the optics when handheld, thumb-on-button style.
  • Overall the lights are beautifully built but that’s the standard.

It does work actually, only that the moon mode is just too bright, almost like medium mode, so, you can only ramp from medium to high mode, other than that, it works fine, I assume it’s because of the low VF.

One resistor needs to be changed for the output voltage to swing across the lower voltage range of red LEDs. The current range is about 8.5V to 14.5V (simulated with the resistor values), fine for white LEDs but doesn’t go low enough for red LEDs.

I talked about it in several comments in this Reddit thread

Remember that there is custom firmware to lower the moonlight on dual channel lights. D4(S)V2 - Lower Lows by Firmware

I’m aware and have flashed it to all of them later, I meant to compare the stock capabilities.

Thanks though!

Anybody baked the 26800 tube? Didn’t realize these were darker than previous grey D4Sv2

Wondering if baking would make it lighter and almost match

Hank-

What is this I hear, you are bringing back the EMISAR D1?!

or just a new 18650 side switch thrower?!

please share?

I am VERY excited about this. Some Reddit users and I have some questions if you don’t mind, Hank.

Will it come with the new body tube & magnetic tailcap available on D4V2, DT8, and DW4?

Will the head be the exact same design or will it be changed?

Will it have all the same emitter options as KR1?

Will it have a lighted switch option? If so, will it be standard or only via email request?

Yes, the body tube and magnetic tailcap are the same as D4V2, DW4.
The design has changed a bit, including the threaded retaining ring just like DW4.
Yes. it will have the same emitter options as KR1.
The lighted switch options are standard, alone with the SS bezel.

So even China won’t ship to Russia now? I didn’t think China would cave-in to pressure from the West. Interesting.

Hank

when could we expect the "new D1" to be available on website?

oooh, oooh, could the D1 v2 have a K1-style RGB switch backlight in lieu of RGB aux?

That would be excellent!

Also general Hanklight question, can the aux emitters be swapped for different colours for added funk?

ETA: I’ve checked and they’re RGB packages, nevermind.

That’s great news! Where did you look? Just so I know where to look in the future…

I’ve looked through my DM11’s TIR. At the right angle it presents a magnified, sufficiently undistorted image of the aux emitters.

Yeah, I thought Russia and China were buddies.

The fact that Hank cannot deliver orders to Russia does not mean that China has stopped trading with Russia. Of course there are difficulties, but China has not turned away from Russia.
Are there any new novelties planned at Hank’s, does anyone know?
