Sounds like Flitz is the popular solution. Will be getting some. The silver polish worked and so far the stains are not returning but it did require a few passes to finally clean them off.
Hey TD, I’d never heard of brass wool before. Sounds interesting & will make a point of picking up some — thanks!
Froglube sounds interesting, PT. I wonder if it’s anything like naval jelly? I do liked the idea of being proactive & putting on some kind of coating periodically to reduce staining of D2 blades.
I don’t think that frog lube is very similar to the naval jelly.
Frog lube is a bio based product and it’s food safe.
It’s sold as a eco friendly gun cleaner and lube
Coke, Pepsi, and a few other sodas do in fact contain phosphoric acid. It makes them more acidic than what you’d get from just the dissolved carbon dioxide in plain seltzer.
You already know that I loved the SRM 7228, you have it reviewed both on my blog and on my YouTube channel, but I always thought that I would love to have the same model in a larger size.
Well, it was time for the review of this SRM model, which is quite popular for its appearance :sisi1:, I’m always attracted to “clip point” and “tanto”:.
Honestly, I just leave the stain on there. I don’t consider myself a knife collector though I do have more knives than I care to mention. My knives just like my guns, tools, flashlights etc…. Get the living hell beat out of them. The function of all of those tools are flawless but I don’t get bothered by a superficial blemish’s. It’s not to say I don’t care about them or care for them but, they are all tools first and everything else second.
well, sort of similar….flashlights and knives especially.
with guns, walnut stocks deserve attention, and the bore
gets some too, but in general, tools; like you said.
I’d just worry about that stain “anchoring” itself for rust to return faster. I don’t mind a little extra effort to keep the blade clean. And for one a blade that will get a lot of moisture exposure, I’d pick S35VN.
I see your point. No use letting rust take over for good if you can actually prevent it. I usually end up losing knives before they get time to rust.
Not a huge D2 fan. My Wesn knife that I seem to use the most is S35VN and seems to take a pretty good beating, keeps an edge for a while and yes, no rust.
Received two Kizer Towser knives bought during 11/11 Sale. The copper one is nicer than the blue canyon(made of recycled paper!), especially after removing dark patina with Brasso.
2 Kubey knives arrived from AE. One with rust (and they came sealed), the second with wrong grind. Unfortunately I have one more order on the way, but after that no more Kubey for me. Also the seller sends order from 2 different Kubey stores together, so some buyers can get unexpected problem with the customs.
