New Hank Light

Looks go9d

Cool. Trying to decide between fc40 around 3000-3200K, 519 4500 dedome, and Bam35 3000 or 3500K

That’s what I was deciding on too. I decided on the 519a 4500k dedomed, it’s looks to be pretty well tossed, could be wrong though

Tossed? I just wonder what is a more useful beam. Perhaps fc-40? The nice thing about 519 is easy swaps to other 3v LED if needed.

Hey Gunga.

I have KR1 with 519 DD and KR1 with FC40 and i gotta tell you for close to mid range 519 has not much purpose where FC40 is a golden middle range between fat triple/quad hotspot and narrow 519.

Atm FC40 replaced all of my torches i have been usually using, just awesome.

Thanks for the info!

I’m surprised the 519A dedomed candela is that poor. I had heard it was closer to SST-20 4000k, at around 35-39kcd. I suppose the 5700k dedomed is better, but I’m guessing it wouldn’t be more than maybe only 23kcd given the output difference from cooler tint alone wouldn’t be that big.

Still amazing tint, high CRI, and decent throw for what it is, but I might go FC-40 instead for the better regulation and bigger, brighter beam even though it’s not as throwy. I imagine it will throw more on a low battery since the CC driver on the 519A falls out of regulation much sooner.

I REALLY wish Hank would offer more 6v and 12v LED options for the D1/KR1 such as XHP50.3 HI, XHP70.3 HI, SST-70 and SFT-70. You’d get a lot more throw and output (though I’m not certain about how well 70.3 throws), and 50.3/70.3 HI come in high CRI and warmer tint options.

For the CC driver side, I’d love to see an SFN55.2/SFN55.3/SFP55 (whatever the most recent version is), or SFH55 (if it fits, which it probably doesn’t) in there for maximum lol factor.

Yep, it doesn’t really throw, it just tosses.

Ha,no, just a goof up. That’s why I rarely post on forums from my phone, I always make and miss mistakes like that. I don’t even remember what I intended to say haha.

I guess it depends on what you consider more useful. While I do appreciate Hank’s beamshot, I do wish they were done individually so we could get a better feel for the beam shapes.

Cool little light. Love all emitter choices. Thinking of either the sbt90 or the sft 40. Maybe I’ll wait for some reviews or some beam shots.

I was thinking of getting the SBT90.2 so I emailed Hank.
He said the throw on that is 650m on a freshly charged cell.

I went B35AM in 3000k. I know of won’t be a monster but it should be beautiful and the cct I like.

I dropped a DD 519a 4000k in a C8+ and the throw is respectable, great colour too. It honestly feels like an xpl-hi killer for me. Trading some power for CRI and CCT options. The hot spot is pretty intense though hence I’m trying B35AM in the D1.

I also have a GT-FC 3000K in an M21B. Impressive emitter. Prefer side switches so I don’t use it much. Once the D1 arrives I can compare the three 3000k options. So far 519 has best colour FC has most usable beam.

The description on their website shows the lumens and lux numbers for each emitter. The sbt90 throws exactly the same as the sft40 version, both hitting 100kcd.

He already said several times he won’t put those LEDs in flashlights ( XHP50.3 HI, XHP70.3 HI).
The SFT-70 is unrealistic entirely unless the LED is not driven to high output wattage (50W) from a single 18650 and 22mm driver Such tiny driver cannot sustain or realistically drive such LED to “get a lot more throw and output”. There are more factors than one to be realistic, just pop it in means only low candela.
So it’s not like he is completely unaware and needs to be told.
Hich CRI of XHP50.3 HI is high DUV and low R9, so not great at all, besides at those type of CRI and CCT the lumen output is not as as high the ubiquitous 70CRI 5000K lumen ratings that most companies use even for their low CCT and high CRI (although poor) ratings.

I happen to like the FC-40 for all-around use (like a EDC/pocket light). It will be interesting to see how it performs against a triple/quad light. The fact that it has a boost driver is icing on the cake. Hank makes pretty amazing lights for cheap.

High current efficiency between 6Vout and 12Vout is mostly the same at the same power, same Vin, it’s just the peak efficiency that is a bit higher at 6Vout, about 1~2 percent points higher, which isn’t a lot, that is if the same inductance is used (1.5uH in the case of the noctigon driver), normally you’d use a lower inductance for 6Vout, which would have lower DCR and a bit more efficiency at high current.

Aahh, Hank musta updated his website. Those numbers weren’t there when I emailed him.
I am just a little disappointed in the lumen output of the SBT90.2. I’m used to expecting 4500 plus lumen as the norm.
But I fully understand it must be because of the lack of mass and perhaps a limitation of a 18650 battery feeding the hungry LED or other factors.
Still planning on getting the light though. Love carrying around all that power and throw in my pocket.

Can’t decide between the SFT40 and the FC-40.

SFT40 offer the optimal performance but I already have 3 lights with this emitter that can throw further. I have FC-40 in my convoy L6 and the beam is beautiful, but then again so is the D4S with 519A. Maybe I don’t need the D1 at all?

I planned to try the new XP-L Hi-version in this light. They probably allow more output, because of lower thermal resistance. So 4000K near 2000 lumen compact thrower could be possible.

Hmm now that I think about it, I already have the noctigon kr1 with sbt90. They are almost identical in size. I was assuming that the d1 mini had a smaller head.

Yeah. I think I changed my mind. Would prefer something that is D4v2 size with single emitter.
