New Hank Light

He already said several times he won’t put those LEDs in flashlights ( XHP50.3 HI, XHP70.3 HI).
The SFT-70 is unrealistic entirely unless the LED is not driven to high output wattage (50W) from a single 18650 and 22mm driver Such tiny driver cannot sustain or realistically drive such LED to “get a lot more throw and output”. There are more factors than one to be realistic, just pop it in means only low candela.
So it’s not like he is completely unaware and needs to be told.
Hich CRI of XHP50.3 HI is high DUV and low R9, so not great at all, besides at those type of CRI and CCT the lumen output is not as as high the ubiquitous 70CRI 5000K lumen ratings that most companies use even for their low CCT and high CRI (although poor) ratings.

I happen to like the FC-40 for all-around use (like a EDC/pocket light). It will be interesting to see how it performs against a triple/quad light. The fact that it has a boost driver is icing on the cake. Hank makes pretty amazing lights for cheap.

High current efficiency between 6Vout and 12Vout is mostly the same at the same power, same Vin, it’s just the peak efficiency that is a bit higher at 6Vout, about 1~2 percent points higher, which isn’t a lot, that is if the same inductance is used (1.5uH in the case of the noctigon driver), normally you’d use a lower inductance for 6Vout, which would have lower DCR and a bit more efficiency at high current.

Aahh, Hank musta updated his website. Those numbers weren’t there when I emailed him.
I am just a little disappointed in the lumen output of the SBT90.2. I’m used to expecting 4500 plus lumen as the norm.
But I fully understand it must be because of the lack of mass and perhaps a limitation of a 18650 battery feeding the hungry LED or other factors.
Still planning on getting the light though. Love carrying around all that power and throw in my pocket.

Can’t decide between the SFT40 and the FC-40.

SFT40 offer the optimal performance but I already have 3 lights with this emitter that can throw further. I have FC-40 in my convoy L6 and the beam is beautiful, but then again so is the D4S with 519A. Maybe I don’t need the D1 at all?

I planned to try the new XP-L Hi-version in this light. They probably allow more output, because of lower thermal resistance. So 4000K near 2000 lumen compact thrower could be possible.

Hmm now that I think about it, I already have the noctigon kr1 with sbt90. They are almost identical in size. I was assuming that the d1 mini had a smaller head.

Yeah. I think I changed my mind. Would prefer something that is D4v2 size with single emitter.

Have you tested your lights? They probably aren’t hitting that lumen rating claim.

What new XPL-HI?

This one

Here’s some more info in pdf-format

What 18650 do you all recommend for my 519a D1? I’m assuming it doesn’t need as high of a discharge rate as my D4V2, so I could get away with something with a lower discharge rate but higher MaH rating?

Correct. Get a name brand 3500 mAh 10A discharge battery. Molicel, Samsung, Panasonic, LG, etc.

Have any of you received your lights yet? Mine will hopefully be here Saturday.

I second that. Always wanted one but I couldn’t really decide which one to get.

Received my D1 with dedomed 4500K 519A today! The tint is absolutely beautiful and while I don’t have any fancy tint-o-meters, it’s a bit more cool/neutral than my 3500K 219B R9080 by about 200K.

I’ve read on Reddit somebody saying the 519A comes with an OP reflector by default, mine came with a smooth one, so I’d check with Hank before ordering if that’s important to you. The beam is a tad bit ringy in the corona, but it’s not too noticeable.

Can’t wait until tonight to get a better feel for the light.

Which would be preferable for overall performance and throw in the new D1, the GT-FC40 or XHP70.3?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the 70.3 ridiculously underpowered in the D1?
