List of budget lights with constant current drivers?

Is there a list of current Convoys that have the 5a/6a drivers? I realized that the store listings don’t always put it in the title/product description, and I had to message Simon for clarification.

All power sources is measured in watts, but not in rigged flashlight world

Armytek flashlights and headlamps…

Convoy driver sold separately on Aliexpress
It is in Accessories (1) of “Convoy flashlight Store”.

The convoy driver mentioned here is not the 5A driver in the s2+, right?

That’s just a linear driver, no buck or boost?

My complements to OP, best question posted on this forum in a long time.

Great replies also.

Convoy’s 5A and 6A drivers are perfectly linear. It seems to be mainly used for S2 +.
Interesting is the 4-mode driver for the Optimus T2, which works as a constant current boost driver (0.5A) for eneloop and as PWM (1.5A) for lithium-ion batteries.

Perfectly linear? I’m assuming you’re referring to the output…

Still doesn’t answer my question. Is it a buck, boost, or does it just burn off the voltage (linear drop off)?

They're linear drivers. The 22mm 8A driver is the only buck driver from Convoy for 3v leds.

Convoy’s 5A, 6A, and ramping drivers are constant current driven by current sense resistors, operational amplifiers and FETs. Since it is a linear drop-off, the control is output as heat. Not buck or boost.

Any updates regarding the “list”?

The buck driver is used in what convoy lights?

Have there been any new lights released with a constant current driver since last year? I’m only aware of TS22 and SC33.

Convoy has an s3 now with 719a or B35AM emitters plus several other 719a lights that are using boost drivers.

I’ve tried most Convoy models, but I’m unfamiliar with the S3. Is it basically an S2+ or is there a clear difference with it in some way?

The reflector of the S2+ and S3 are the same, so you’ll get the same beam pattern (if you choose the same emitter), except the S3 has a stainless steel bezel, so the beam is probably ringier for the S3.
The S2 (with no “+”) has a deeper reflector than I think any other small “S” series Convoy flashlight, so that one would be different. :+1:

So the S3 is a straight downgrade? No improvements?

Well, in my opinion, the S3 looks better than the S2+, and I prefer stainless steel bezels, so it depends on what you’re looking for.
(My favorite of the small S series is the S2 because it throws further.)

The s3 has a shelf instead of a pill so I think that means the thermals should be better. I like the pill though. Easier to swap stuff around.

Well one big improvement in the context of this thread is that the s3 is offered by Simon with a boost driver while s2+ is not!

That’s related to the different structure:
