What 519A light do I want?

Heya BLF. Looking to get into the 519A scene and need some guidance. At the moment here’s my preferences:

21700 but 18650 is OK too.
5000K-ish high CRI. No lower than 4KK
muli-TIR - I’m really digging the smooth fat hotspot with no tint shift of my IF25A
Low to medium throw, mostly indoors but not pure flood
Efficient - I prefer cooler and longer runtime
Some indicator of battery charge level
Don’t need USB/charging port

What’s the current state-of-the-recommendation?

Acebeam E70 MINI. Unfortunately no battery check, but otherwise a nice flooder.

If you are on a budget buy :

I will recommend the Convoy S21D Quad Emitter 519A 5000K with 8A driver 30deg bead TIR.

If you have have more budget :

I will recommend the Noctigon KR4 Quad Emitter 519A 5700K-DD(De-domed) but it’s a 18650 light.

Loud ringing endorsement for the newly released Acebeam E70 Mini. Just got mine two weeks ago and absolutely thrilled with the beam quality and runtime. Pure neutral white 95 CRI goodness in a huge completely even-throughout circle: best of any triple I've ever owned. Great output spacing with outstanding runtimes. Heat management is ideal with tube in tube structure. Turbo @ 2000 lumen is very satisfying. Rock solid build quality and nice aesthetic.

Cons: requires button top 18650s, lack of true moonlight (lowest level is 20 lumens for 56 hours), no batt level indicator. Turbo becomes disabled at around 3.1V. That's the indicator to change battery before LVP auto ramp down at 2.9V.

Recommend the included Acebeam cell for $79 retail. ($69 wo cell).

Runtimes 60 lumens for 19 hrs, 170 lumens for 7 hrs, 350 lumens for 3.5 hrs, 900 lumens for 2 hours.

Overall, the exceptional artifact-free beam quality of the E70 Mini alone makes it an ideal purchase. Highest recommendation.

Alternatively, many Hanklights (Noctigon, Emisar) at intl-outdoor.com offer the 519A in a large variety of CCTs, domed or dedomed for the KR4, D4V2, etc.

Go out and grab an E70mini, you WONT regret it!

I got mine from a US reseller on eBay for 3 day delivery. I was so excited about the specs but floored with its beam quality in person.

Have fun!

I have the E70 predecessor, EC65, modded by Skylumen to a quad 519A and love it. My one complaint is that its lowest mode is 12 lumens, which is sometimes way too much at night.

I also have the very similar Thrunite T2, Skylumen’ed to a single GT-FC40. The light quality (CRI) and CCT are virtually identical, but the Thrunite has a 0.3 lumen moonlight mode.

I like them both, but the Thrunite T2 goes on the nightstand.

I'd actually vote for the triple emitter Convoy, the S12, instead of the S21D. I have the quad S21D in the 12A version, and though I mangled one of the LEDs while changing the lens, quads simply get too hot for practical use, even at 50% (I usually program for option 8). The S12 is slightly larger, and that larger head definitely helps dissipation IME with the two of them.

I don't have the Mini E70, but it's also interesting to me. The double click to on, and the over the top styling are keeping me at bay though.

Brother to the KR4, the D4V2. Also gets hot way too fast, but it's manageable. I might get another one with the boost driver to see how it fares.

Would the flat optic beam shape resemble the IF25A? If so I might get 10deg bead to get just a little more flood than the IF25A. Right? Or maybe ask Simon to include all 4 optics?

I don’t see the option to select temp on the S12 519A page. Also how does the beam shape compare to the S21D choices? It would be nice to see a comparison of all these.

The reason I recommend the 8A over the 12A. 8A is more efficient, hence less heat.

Same goes to the KR4, D4V2, the latest boost driver is more efficient, hence less heat.

Anyway, we are about some hotrod/small size powerful flashlight here, no/less heat mean much less lumens. Use any light at 100 lumens, it will forever won’t get hot.

You can actually buy the optic from Simon to try them out. I will suggest you try only the 10deg or 30deg as I’m confident from your question that you will not like the 60deg and 90deg.

Have fun mate.

Emisar DW4

Thinkin about the optional Acebeam-branded cell…

At 2000 lumens would the E70 Mini be drawing under 8A? I have some Keeppower protected GA’s that (according to spec) trip at 8A.

Yes. 2000 LED lumens would be around 2 A each LED. I guess the OTF lumens of the MINI are much lower (seem to remember someone measured about 1700 lm, I get a similar figure).
