JenkinsMatti:HmmmmâŚ. add a â- 1â button also.
Hi there, definitely not a â1 button, this isnât Reddit and I donât want it to turn into a contest where people try to make the wittiest (i.e. most inflammatory and insulting) comments in search of an upvote, or where unpopular opinions get downvoted even if theyâre perfectly in line with the rules. Reddit seems to bring out the worst in many many users, and Iâm convinced that thereâs something in their up/down voting system that triggers that herd mentality.
Total agreement with that
We do have a nesting limit in place, itâs currently at 5. Last time I checked it was working.

Damn, I was caught in the act of exaggeration
OK, but I think that itâs still too much.
I think if this feature was added you would see far more upvotes/awards than you see thank-you comments now. I have a feeling that a lot of people want to express thanks but avoid posting to threads they are not initially involved in out of courtesy.
The positive feedback could help members who contribute a lot of useful information to feel appreciated. This should encourage more high-quality posts. Careful implementation of this feature would be key. For example, you could hide the exact count of âlikesâ or awards to avoid high-score mentality.
Edit: Started writing this before you updated your post. I agree that quotes are a space problem. Quotes should probably link back to the original post after a certain number of ânestsâ
Yes thatâs possible.
I attempted to like the first post...

Maybe a comment rating system could be one-sided, like youtube. They show only upvotes.

OK, I can reduce it. Maybe to 3?

Yep, thatâs what Iâm thinking too. The technical implementation might be very challenging though, thatâs why I havenât definitively committed to implementing it yet.
How about a "x1" button?
That way you don't add one or subtract one--you can only multiply by one.

We do have an x0 button though, itâs labelled Report. :innocent:

Is it possible to adjust the amount of padding given to quotes? Even those tiny quotes you nested take up tons of space relative to how much text is actually present.
Sorry for replying to the wrong post. Didnât want to quote that gigantic nest haha
I donât really want to become more like Reddit.
Please donât turn this forum into yet another social media platform
You donât need to please everyone for your opinion to be valid. Itâs a flashlight forum where political discussions are not allowed.

I think you should read more of the thread before commenting.

I think I have read enough of the thread to be able to comment.
And this is why I believe the +1 button shouldnât exist, in this case either my comment or yours would receive more amount of +1âs, rendering one comment more valid than the other by popular opinion, and thus creating a somewhat harsh environment for the other user.
Do this repeatedly day after day and people will eventually stop posting about the not so interesting content, such as modding $10 flashlights instead of showing off a collection of their 35 different hank lights. They even had to create r/Hanklights to control the flood in r/flashlight.
Anyways, I do think there is place for a r/BudgetLights to exist, for those who donât like the classic forum format.
So this would be an âanonymousâ plus one system at the bottom of an individual response box? I guess you would get slightly more participation in some threads. Iâm not sure how a few anonymous likes are going to be all that helpful though. I do sometimes look at them on YouTube videos but there you can see how many people watched the video and liked it and disliked it.

Youtube ditched the dislike button because propaganda / social engineering / demoralization vehicles were getting disliked into oblivion. Youâre not supposed to know that the average person isnât drinking the kool-aid.
