Modding SP70 with Xhp70.3 HI 4000k

I am thinking of modding a Sofirn SP70 with the new Xhp70.3 HI 4000k LED MCPCB from Kaidomain. Link to LED

Anyone tried it yet or any advice? It would be my first attempt at modding a flashlight. Would the upgrade be worthwhile? I’m aiming for more throw, better tint and high CRI.

That emitter has a green tint. I have tested it. From Kaidomains XHP70.3 Hi’s I would suggest 5700K 2D 90cri, which is excellent or 5000K 80cri, which is ok.

With 70.3 HI 90 cri you achieve better throw, better cri but searching one with good tint is difficult.

Best I have found so far is that Kaido 5700 I mentioned earlier.

Focusing the beam might take some tries. Could be perfect or could need either thicker or thinner centering gasket.

Thanks Haukkeli, I will give it a go!

That’s great advice. Have you found any XHP70.3 HI’s you prefer more than Kaidomains 5700K 2D 90cri (from a different seller)?

I haven’t. I have found one ok 5000K domed one from Digikey.
XHP70D-00-0000-0D0UM20E3.
It’s ok domed and good sliced, but it’s already pretty low flux bin and loses more luminosity after that treatment.

@Haukkeli
Thank you for testing several emitters and posting your findings. We would be lost and disappointed without people like you to blaze the trail ahead of us. I was initially concerned by the low flux bin offerings for the 70.3 HI, but the concentrated radiation pattern should more than make up for any losses detectable by human eyes.
