【convoy】H4 and B35AM options are updated

Yeah, Simon said he would try a batch of anduril drivers, but we haven’t got any news about which hosts will be compatible. The small to medium size hosts with side eswitch would be the best candidates. It would fix all the quirks of the current ramping drivers.

In the default simpleUI mode, functionality would be very similar (simpler actually), with good, visually linear brightness ramping, good thermal regulation, shortcuts to turbo amd moonlight and lockout with excellent unlock features.

uh ,sorry ,I don’t have a proper host.

Arrived S21E with 519A (4500K) and it’s awful green, ugly batch, don’t recommend :confounded:

Sorry to hear that. But pictures tell a thousand tales.

I’m a fan of Convoy. So far, I have 519A 4500K alone on S2, M1, M2, C8 and S12. On the S2, M1 and C8 with new AR Lens, they are rosy. On the M2 and S12 with old AR lens, they are very neutral.

I was thinking 2 reasons for the green you see :

  1. Old lens used for S21E
  2. Driven a bit too hard with 6A driver on S21E

As per my review https://www.stephenknightphotography.com/post/flashlight-review-convoy-s21e-519a there is a noticeable visual difference in DUV between the 519A 5700k in the S21E with purple AR lens and S2+ with green AR lens. I would expect these are from the same batch. However, I only see this when they are side by side. Compared to my LH351D 5700k, they are both very neutral. However, I’m holding off purchasing more S21Es to see if Simon changes to using green AR lenses in the S21E. In the meantime I’ll keep using my S2+ 519A for night/urbex photography.

Also, the packaging for the S21E is not fit for purpose, with my sample arriving with a dented battery positive pole (I’ve never had a battery arrive damaged in any other light). This light has fantastic potential as a “consumer grade” light with optional battery and USB-C charging. The packaging should be adequate enough for the light to arrive intact. I would happily pay a few more $ for packaging of the quality of Sofirn/Wurkkos lights, or the gift boxes that the S2+ CSLNM1 coloured lights arrived in.

Previously I had an S2+ with the same LED from the first batch and the tint was great, only Simon put in a meaningless SMO reflector.

Yes, I think Simon might appreciate Anduril 2 Simple UI, it fixes most of the confusion that Anduril 1 causes!

Especially if he uses the TINY1616, which does not need thermal calibration (calibrated from factory)

I replace 8 of my purple AR 20.5mm lenses with the new green ones in flashlights with 219Bs, 219Cs, 519As, SST-20s, and LH351Ds.

  • With the 219Bs, they became slightly more rosy which is what I was hoping for. Though with the sw45k, I kept the purple lens since it was already very rosy.
  • With the 519As, it didn’t really matter since they were all dedomed and already rosy.
  • With the others, they became less green and/or slightly more rosy.

It was definitely worth replacing them to me!

I am also thinking about buying 519A, 4500K. Can you try taking off the glass lens and see if it might be the cause?

I’ve got Convoy lights from some 3-4 years ago and the glass lenses definitely made tint more greenish (but I didn’t rule out the fact that the greenish tint might come from the emitter itself).

Without glass it continues to be green, maybe a little less but still more than the LH351D 2700/5500K mix. Sorry no photo.

The S21D gets extremely hot with 219B Leds.
I measured above 60 °C on the case.

Is this because of the 219B or do other LEDs have this problem as well?
How hot will the S21D get with 519A LEDs?

The max temp should be the same since it has temperature regulation. Running 8 or more amps in a relatively small flashlight will heat up fast regardless of the LEDs.

The 519As are more efficient than the 219Bs (Nichia 519A), but in the end they’ll both get to the same max temp and then the driver will take over.

Is T3 driver compatible with red sst-20?

I don’t think so. I’m pretty sure someone else has tried it and was disappointed.

I asked Simon about it some time ago and he said there was no suitable driver for the t3 + red.

In my testing of Convoy lights, I’ve found that they have thermal regulation but only between 100% mode and 35% mode. They won’t dip below 35% mode no matter how hot they get. That’s just based on runtime graphs & how hot they feel to the touch though, so I could be wrong. It would explain prokolow’s experience though.

Convoy states the S21D driver has:

  • “Temperature protection management inside,After triggering the temperature control, the current drops to a minimum of 20%”.

For the SST-40 drivers it states:

  • “It can control the flashlight temperature not to exceed 55 degrees Celsius, If the flashlight temperature is below 55 degrees Celsius, it will output full current. If it is above 55 degrees Celsius, it will constantly adjust the current so that the flashlight will not overheat.”

I have many of the SST-40 drivers and they do a great job to regulate the temp. Actually I wouldn’t mind if they got a tad bit hotter.

But regardless, with the same S21D driver, I would suspect a similar max temp would result from either the 519A or 219B LEDs.

If that 20% thing is true, that’s a nice improvement.

I know almost all of Convoy’s lights say the 55C thing. That’s just not what I’ve personally observed on half a dozen lights I’ve tested.

I agree that 519A vs 219B in S21D should result in the same max temp.

Hello Simon! Do you ever plan on offering the E21 Nichia LEDs on your lights??

I’m pretty keen to see Anduril on some of the Convoy drivers. I would replace the driver in my M21C-U if one were available, or simply buy an M21D for the onboard charging
