The max temp should be the same since it has temperature regulation. Running 8 or more amps in a relatively small flashlight will heat up fast regardless of the LEDs.
The 519As are more efficient than the 219Bs (Nichia 519A), but in the end they’ll both get to the same max temp and then the driver will take over.
In my testing of Convoy lights, I’ve found that they have thermal regulation but only between 100% mode and 35% mode. They won’t dip below 35% mode no matter how hot they get. That’s just based on runtime graphs & how hot they feel to the touch though, so I could be wrong. It would explain prokolow’s experience though.
“Temperature protection management inside,After triggering the temperature control, the current drops to a minimum of 20%”.
For the SST-40 drivers it states:
“It can control the flashlight temperature not to exceed 55 degrees Celsius, If the flashlight temperature is below 55 degrees Celsius, it will output full current. If it is above 55 degrees Celsius, it will constantly adjust the current so that the flashlight will not overheat.”
I have many of the SST-40 drivers and they do a great job to regulate the temp. Actually I wouldn’t mind if they got a tad bit hotter.
But regardless, with the same S21D driver, I would suspect a similar max temp would result from either the 519A or 219B LEDs.
I’m pretty keen to see Anduril on some of the Convoy drivers. I would replace the driver in my M21C-U if one were available, or simply buy an M21D for the onboard charging
Large 3x21700 SBT90.2 thrower prototype shared on Facebook and then Reddit. It looks awesome! I hope that the Anduril 2 driver Simon said he’d work on will be compatible.
I’ll soon buy a S21A with the B35AM 4500k, but I really wanted something small with a 1800k LED in it. Something like a T3 or even a S2, perhaps a triple E21 S2? That would be awesome. Btw, do you still have plans for a triple S2+
Ahhhhhh it’s a WT90 lookalike. Yep, FET driver for sure with this. Sadly just another hotrod thrower probably. If he did a constant current channel like 15-20 amps and a FET channel for turbo I’d be all over it. Amutorch did a buck driver for the DM90 that pulls over 20 amps sp it’s possible.
Doesn’t Hank have a 6V 22mm driver now for the B35AM in the new D1?
Speaking of 6V drivers, I think one of the best things Convoy could focus on next would be getting some XHP50.3 HI and XHP70.3 HI in 90 CRI. The 50.3 HI in particular would fill the niche of a reasonably throwy High CRI light. Could likely pair it with the XHP70.2 driver, since I think it can take a fair bit more than the 3A from the XHP50.2 driver.
