KC1 keychain light is available now

Well, the new D4K looks exciting. The size difference is so small this might actually be a D4V2 replacement for some people. Having potentially 2000mah more battery life is great too.

What I would like to see next is a Thrunite T2 competitor from Hank using this same tube, XHP 70.3 Hi/FC40 and a nice efficient driver.

Does anyone know what kind of driver is used for the Emisar D1 with an XHP70.3 HI installed?

Can someone post the link for the boost driver information, thanks in advance.

But we do have TS22 from wurkkos for 40$, it would be hard to go against it.

Hank does the D4K use the same head as the D4V2? Could I purchase a D4K tube and tail cap separately and use them with my D4V2 head? I would like to get a little extra runtime out of my D4V2 E21A 3500k and I don’t want to end up with 2 basically identical lights by ordering a D4K with the same emitters.

Almost certainly not. It would be quite tricky to make a 21700 tube thread into an 18650 head. The tube must be physically larger diameter

But D4v2 head thread opening is larger than 21700, hence the question
I even grabbed my D4v2, and 21700 to check it.

But well hank only said that the sizs of the head is the same, he didn't say it's identical, so I'm waiting for the answer as well.

Hank said the head is different.

With 22mm threads (d4v2) you would not be able to make a 21700 tube for it.

You could, if the battery doesn’t go inside the head. The extra space could be used for a hidden USB-C charging like in the K1 and K9.3 tube.

That would be a cool way to update everyone’s D1/D4/DW4/DT8 to 21700. Though for a business it’s of course better to introduce a whole new model, or a series (K = 21700), than to just sell fancy tubes for existing flashlights.

I see the TS22 but I think Hank could create a light that was distinct from it.

  • No internal charging for a lighter, more compact package
  • The choice to have either XHP 70.3 HI or GT FC40, maybe XHP 50.3 HI
  • Andúril firmware
  • Backlit button (rgb or fixed)

For it to be a really killer light it would need a driver that could hit those crazy 4000+ lumens but also be incredibly efficient at the medium levels. If it ONLY hits the other points I mentioned it would not really compete with something like a Thrunite T2 (using that for comparison since I don’t have any familiarity with the real world performance of the TS22)

it's 23.40mm opening, and the threads appear to be 0.60mm height, so we have around 22.20mm
The cell should have about 21.50mm opening minimum (better to have more), to fit most 21700
(22.20-21.50)/2=0.35
So we got 0.35mm for the tube walls, yeah not possible...

I could have measure it and do calculation earlier... and not just eyeball it

I would also be interested in this. A D1K, if you will. D4K diameter head (obviously it will need to be deeper to fit a reflector) but with all the emitter options from D1V2.

Honestly I feel like Hank could have updated ALL the 18650 side-switch lights (D4V2, DT8, D1V2, DW4) with the new wider head diameter, then added a new 18650 tube to fit the new head design.

Right now it wouldn’t make sense though from a manufacturing/business standpoint, considering he’s already invested into the 22mm tube system for the most recent lights

I wish the 21700 lights had standardized threads, so the tubes between DM11, K1, D4K were interchangeable.

I think the DK4 highlights how chunky the D4V2 is. Don’t get me wrong, I like it a lot, but frankly it’s too big for me to comfortably pocket carry.

I’m sure other people have had this idea, but I’d like to see Hank make a compact 18xxx light as a triple instead of a quad.

Here’s a modded Wowtac A6 triple compared to a D4V2. It might be hard to imagine with the pic, but there’s a huge difference in pocket-ability.

This looks awesome.

I’m overwhelmed by the emitter choices…
Would be nice if there was a good writeup of characteristics to expect with each one, and maybe even comparative qualities (why one might choose 1 LED over another while still very similar in output/efficiency). Is there a page floating about somewhere in this long thread that takes a good stab at it?

Yes, I would be interested in that too.
From the emitter list I am familiar with the 365nm leds, so I immediately bough a D4v2 with 8 5W uv leds
But I would like to get 2 more D4v2 lights with regular high CRI leds like Nichia 219, and not sure which one to choose because there are so many new leds.
The new D4k, how larger is it compared to D4v2?

I found the following reddit threads helpful for helping me pick, it’s not a comprehensive list but it’s most of them:

Thread 2

Niceee

So best option looks like it is a Dual channel Emisar D4v2 with W1 + 519 4500K

There is no best as such, it’s always a compromise, that’s why all the other options exist (and are frequently ordered) in the first place.
