What did you mod today?

I’d like to see how this comes out. I have a Rancilio Silvia that I modded with a PID kit. Been using it every day since 2006, still going strong.

Long time… years… since I did anything FL related.

My modded L6 went to a better home a long time ago and while I had the parts I never did make another.
L6 with 70.3 4000K and Mtn Fet+1 D4 ramping. Also made the E-SW light. But still to bright IMO. Kinda quit after 6 resistor swaps. Kept the OP reflector but I do have SMO to try again. Wasn’t happy with last SMO on the stock light.

Took the L6 apart and this was the first thing I found. Emitter shelf has black anno and someone took a grinder to the emitter base surface. GRRR this build just got Longer.

Got it lapped flat after some time…
E-SW still a bit too bright in complete dark

But not that bad in day in daylight.

ML is nice with 4 squares looking even.

Pretty happy with the Spot. Pulls 17A at tailcap for over 15sec till it starts dropping, Old Lii50A black. Haven’t messed with thermals and probably wont.

Nice VWP, the L6 is a very sweet host! I too just put one together, mine is a stubby with a single cell tube from an L2 and utilizing an SFT40 emitter. Richard built the driver, I flashed it with Anduril.

Intended to use an 90.2, 20mm shelf needs to be larger. Not up to doing that at this time hence plan B. Lol

Makes me realize just how much work I used to put into lights!

Looks very nice, congrats!

More playing with the L6…
Trying to flash Anduril to the MtnE 30mm Fet+1 tiny85 for 2S config. I tried the “anduril.2021-12-13.emisar-d4.hex” file and could not get it to run full turbo. Was only drawing about 4A with on and 2C. Tried again with “anduril.2020-03-18.emisar-d4.hex” file and got it back to 17A on full turbo.
Was like it wasn’t kicking in the Fet…
Any hints here?

Anyway it seems fine now.

Is one Anduril 1 and one Anduril 2? Turbo behavior has changed in Anduril 2. To get turbo, first ramp up to ceiling, then do 2C. It can be changed in the config menu, check the manual.

Hello Sammy, I tried the ramp to top and 2C but there still was no change in brightness. Same files again on another light with another MtnE 17mm Fet+1 tiny85, but this light is a triple running 1S. Flashed it back to the 2020 file and it will run turbo ON and 2C. Same problem on 2 different lights with same files used.

I did check the Anduril2 directory of files and there were none that match these dates. I do see the “Anduril2” files in that folder do not use the “2” in the names but I did not get these from that directory. This Anduril is new to me and thanks for the tips.

Just finished this one today. Old C8F 18650 host. Now has XPL-HI 5000K and the MtnE Fet+1 on Anduril.
More old parts getting used up.

padded case takes up too much space, best I could come up with for drawer storage

Very nice looking beam profile, congrats on your mod.

Thrunite Ti3 Ti Hi

stock:

mod to sw45k:
.

Thanks Jon, that TI3 is looking pretty sweet now.

Little more thought on my firmware flash after reading all the recent posts on Anduril “issues”. The newer version just might flash to muggle mode with no turbo. But I’m still learning Anduril so I would bet that I am the Issue. Wires on the C8F and the L6 are just barely long enough to get the driver flipped and clipped for flash. Will try again.
Need to ditch the Green SW LED on the C8F anyway… back to the bench.

tickled Pink I am w the Ti3, thanks

hope you make good progress w your mod and Anduril learning curve

happy to brainstorm Anduril Options, PM any time

Thanks for the offer Jon. I tried again on the 2021 file and also tried to to see if it was Muggle mode. I was able to access other functions so I am inclined to think it was not in Muggle mode and NO Turbo once again. 6C, same same… Just went back to the 2020 file I know works.

Went white behind the smoke black button. I like it…
Hand soldering.

I modded my BLF LT1 lantern with a new board from Lampman who restarted his business in Norway, much fun, more details here:

The posts i see are about someone’s personal issues with Anduril 2 rather than issues within the firmware.

Anduril 1 had muggle mode, Anduril 2 is quite different and is built around 2 UIs, Simple UI and Advanced UI. Simple UI is a properly performing UI with more functions than muggle mode, possibly including those functions you accessed.

In Anduril 2, if you’re not at the top of the ramp 2C will take you there. Once you’re at the top of the ramp 2C will take you to turbo in Advanced UI, but there is no turbo in the Simple UI so 2C will not change the brightness level from the top of the ramp.

If you’ve just flashed the firmware it will have defaulted to Simple UI (intentionally) which would give you more functions than muggle mode and no turbo, which sounds similar to what you experienced.

Also, 6C is only relevant to Anduril 1, it does not switch between UIs in Anduril 2. (That’s 10H for Simple -> Advanced, and 10C for Advanced -> Simple.)

Is it possible there’s a misunderstanding with how the new firmware functions rather than a fault with the firmware itself?

Here are some UI flow diagrams for Anduril 2:

This is a link to the text version of the manual:
https://toykeeper.net/torches/fsm/anduril2/anduril-manual.txt

TK’s Anduril 2 thread:
https://budgetlightforum.com/t/-/62656

good info… some caveats

1. not all anduril 2 lights default to Simple, some default to Advanced

the way to tell which one youre in, is to do 3C from off… if the voltage reads out once and turns off, that is Simple Mode. If instead the voltage blinks repeat until switched off, that is Advanced

2. In some Anduril 2 lights, simple mode ceiling is set to 150/150… iow, the same as if it was on Turbo

3. In advanced, from On, 2C gives ceiling, another 2C will NOT go to Turbo, it drops back to the previous output… Unless you get into the manual and configure the Turbo Style… the default way to get to Turbo from On is to Ramp up to ceiling first, and then do 2C to reach Turbo

otoh, from Off, 2C does give Turbo, unless it is disabled, in which case it gives ceiling.

best advice is to Read the Manual

Was a Long night but you both nailed the “problem”. I am new to Anduril let alone Andruil 2. I even went as far as rewiring my clip, reloading USBASP drivers to make sure they were correct before I realised the files were A2. But in my defense the files were Not taken from the A2 directory. :person_facepalming:

Anyway, lessons learned. The L6, C8F triple and 2 original Q8 are now on Andruil 2.

Makes sense, if you think it’s Anduril you’d expect it to behave like Anduril. Cool you’re up and running with some nice lights to have it on.

That 17A at the L6 tailcap, is that with one or two batteries?

And you can set turbo for the Simple UI, or you can set the ceiling to turbo level and ramp all the way there and back. Just in case you don’t know.

2S batts. And that was with the ranpingIOS. Haven’t tested it again with Anduril2. Also have not played with the voltage or thermal cal on the L6 since A2 flash.
Thanks for the turbo in simple tip, I would still want it at 2C. Would it still go to turbo at 2C if I set it at the top of the ramp too?

There is no Turbo in Simple, only Ceiling… and 2C gets you there… so, if the ceiling is set to 150/150, 2C gets you the ceiling of 150/150=Turbo

> Would it still go to turbo at 2C if I set it at the top of the ramp too?

top of ramp = turbo
simple goes to top of ramp w 2C… there is no separate Turbo in Simple

so if you set simple ceiling to 100/150, then thats all you get from 2C in Simple…

otoh advanced has an independent Turbo… available in addition to whatever ceiling is… but Turbo still equals top of ramp, IF ceiling is set to 150/150, then Turbo will look exactly the same

there are now 4 turbo styles… look in the manual for the section that says:
“Item 4: Configure Advanced UI’s turbo style”

Wow, that’s a lot of power!

Simple is set that way by default but you can turn turbo on. As you rightly point out it makes no difference if ceiling is set to the default of 150.

This is from TK’s manual( relating to 10H from off in Advanced UI):

“For the Simple UI mode, there are four menu options. The first three
are the same as stepped ramping mode.

1. Floor. (default = 20/150)
2. Ceiling. (default = 120/150)
3. Number of steps. (default = 5)
4. Turbo style. (default = 0, no turbo)”

So if you hold the 10H until the fourth flash and then click during the fuzz you turn turbo on.

As jon_slider explains, if the top of ramp (ceiling) is set to level 150/150, which is turbo, then 2C would take you to turbo from levels 1-149. But when you’re at the top of the ramp at 150 you’re already where 2C would take you.
If you set the ceiling lower than turbo, say to level 120/150, then 2C would take you to 150 from all levels.

(Not sure if that makes sense, feel like i’m mixing terminology a bit.)
