[Review] Sofirn SC21Pro LH351D high CRI EDC flashlight

Hello everyone!

One more review finished. Sofirn SC21Pro keychain ligh with high CRI LH351D LED.
Hope you will enjoy watching (if you liked video, please subscribe, more reviews are coming… ). As always suggestions and questions are welcome

**Runtimes**

Color temperature measurements and PWM using OPPLE Light Master Pro:

First thing I did was replace the stock Samsung with a Nichia, turned out great!

nice review, I always enjoy looking at run time plots, its the engineer geek in me.

I notice that at the higher levels of output for the run time plots, the output steps down and then there’s a long time of continued operation. I suspect this is due to the max temperature setting in Anduril. One helpful thing would for an Anduril light would be to state what the max temperature setting is. I think the default is 45C? Guessing you didn’t change it for the video. Like you mentioned in the video, the run time will vary depending on the temperature calibration and the max temp setting.

agree

Raising the Thermal Limit, raises the Sustainable Output.

I just got one of these. I like the size and form factor and really like that it has onboard USB charging. The switch has a nice feel to it. I’m not super excited about the switch aux LED placement but whatever. The pocket clip is too tight and too bulky, I’d rather a single-sided one, but I didn’t have any loose ones sitting around that fit right.

As everyone mentions, it ships with Anduril 1, not 2, but its driver has a tiny1616 and the same pin assignments as the big fat SP36 3x18650 light so you can flash it with Anduril 2 - the modes and ramps are all fine, aux button LED works properly including USB charging indication, temperature readings were correct without adjustment on mine, battery voltage was quite close (i added +.10 correction.) Programming with three-wire UPDI and avrdude/pymcuprog is pretty easy.

The bezel on mine was mildly threadlocked but unscrewed with gentle heating and torque. The emitter is on a 17mm MCPCB and there seems to be room for soldering without too much hassle.

This could be really nice with a shorter bezel and a TIR or even no reflector.

Hmm, for some reason I thought one needed a different interface to the SC21 pro MCU to flash this driver. I’d like to learn more about being able to use the setup I have for flashing to flash Anduril 2 on the SC21 pro.

you need to buy the kit from gchart

last time you asked Sofirn SC21 mini - #294 by sbslider

this was the answer:

Yeah, thanks jonslider. I just got back to this and discovered what you posted above. I saw attiny and didn’t recall there were multiple types, and that different programmers for them. I was just about to post that here, but you beat me to it.

glad you found the info

fwiw, if you dont yet own an SC21 Pro
I have one available, brand new, it is reflashed already…

It can probably also be programmed with regular AVR ISP programmers but it also can do UPDI which is easier because it’s only three wires. Somebody already wrote up how to do it here

I think people have been using CH340/341-based adapters but for UPDI the programmer is basically being used as a USB-serial interface and I just used a generic ft232 usb serial with a diode across TX and RX, as discussed here.

You only need to connect to the pins on the SC21pro driver marked 2, 6, and 1.

Oh I forgot to mention my only complaints with sp36 anduril 2 on this light -

nevermind i’m a dumbass. LVP works, the red LED in the button is afaict only controlled by the charging circuit, I don’t think software can touch it, though the manual claims it will turn red when battery is low? I dunno.
