Should I get an Amutorch XT45 Gen 2 or something else? [SBT90.2 somewhat compact thrower]

I'd like a budget Luminus SBT90.2 flashlight.

I'm thinking about getting an Amutorch XT45 Gen 2.

Based on this website...

https://davestechreviews.com/2022/04/02/luminus-sbt90-2-flashlights/

...the Amutorch appeals to me.

I like the size (and price) of the Amutorch, and I like that it has a tail switch.

The Amutorch has a 45mm bezel width, which is the maximum I would consider.

What I'd like to find is a runtime graph for the flashlight on high, but apparently that doesn't exist.

So, should I get an Amutorch XT45 Gen 2 or something else?

No one?

I guess I won't get anything wait until I hear about a better (different) flashlight.

Not familiar with that one but I recently purchased Wurkkos TS30S that is amazing. It’s a lot of light for $55.

The Wurkkos TS30S doesn't appeal to me, but it does look like a lot of light for $55.

In fact, it looks like a much better deal than the Amutorch XT45 Gen 2.

My most compact launcher with SBT90.2 is the Manker U22III it is very compact, it throws over 900 meters and above all it uses a 21700 battery which is essential for a led that requires a lot of energy.

Il Wurkkos TS30S non mi piace, ma sembra molto leggero per $ 55.

In effetti, sembra un affare molto migliore rispetto all'Amutorch XT45 Gen 2.

[/Citazione]

The Wurkkos is the best economic alternative because it is cheap but it is worth a lot, especially I like that it has Anduril and that it allows me to set its thermal step-down and moreover it throws even further than the Manker U22III.

If you like this flashlight then buy it, simple.

My thought on the SBT90.2:
SBT90.2 needs a good efficient driver and a large mass to dissipate heat.
The SBT90.2 on very small torches I think is not a good choice, the TS30S is already at the limit in terms of size, but the XT45 is even smaller and you will find yourself with a torch that is immediately hot and generates few lumens, immediately going to stepdown.
I have a TS30S and C8L, TS30S is amazing but a lot of heat and a fast battery drain, so C8L with XHP50.3HI is much more pleasant to use, more efficient, generates less heat and generate more lumens for longer time.
My advice on a 45mm diameter flashlight is to stay on a more efficient solution.
IMHO

Yep, you've nailed it, Argo.

Now I think I'll stick with the SFT40 emitter (for throw) instead.

Although the SBT90.2 throws even further, it's a not-so-perfect solution for somewhat compact throwers.

Hey, I saved myself some money by not getting a kinda pricey flashlight!

:+1: Good input Argo. Too much heat in a small package is never good.

55 bucks is a steal for that light, the emitter alone is already 40 USD, the build quality of the Wurkkos is amazing

Get yourself a Convoy L21B with SFT40 emitter, or swap the emitter of the Astrolux FT03 with an SFT40, that one is driven even harder and has a larger reflector, it will throw amazing (don’t ask me how i know)

50 Bucks and free shipping and ships from our neighbor!

it looks like a great body and good for dissipating heat. I imagine it would be a good choice for sft40.

Get the Wurkkos with SBT90.2. Unless you have already experienced this level of throw and output (~4000 plus lumen, ~1km throw) in another light, TS30S will change your perspective on what’s important in life (JK of course I meant “flashligh” life).

You will find an excuse to use it, and you will rationalize that it is kind of compact after all. And further rationalize that the side switch is better for you (Wurkkos’s side switch in this light is best in business IMHO).

All kidding aside, no kidding: get the Wurkkos. Tremendous light at tremendous price. And as others have mentioned, I wouldn’t want a smaller host than TS30S. Too much heat and smaller reflector somewhat defeating the purpose of getting the SBT90.2.

Thanks a lot for the advertisement. It’s already gone  .

I actually like the look of this light. No charge port, a spring at both ends, lots of cooling fins. I’m contemplating buying this with sft40 and passing on my c8l (I don’t like the in built charging). Does the tail switch have momentary on?

I just got two D1 mini pocket throwers from Hank that are magnificent. The first is the SBT90.2 and throws out an astonishing amount of light. The second is W2 deep blue and is amazing too.

You can use 18650, 18500, or 18350 if you buy the optional tubes. I’m using 18350 and they’re tiny

The Amutorch XT60 NB90.16 is also a really awesome light to consider, just slightly larger but has more output and can sustain turbo for about 1min.

1Lumen Review

I purchased mine from Nealsgadgets:

Nealsgadgets XT60 NB90.16

Have you thought about the tint (or even color) you want for your thrower? The SBT comes in red I think but I haven’t seen it.

This green thrower is amazing but it’s big

NOCTIGON K1 THROWER 1*21700 LED FLASHLIGHT

Body color
Green
LED & Tint
W1 Green (Osram CSLNM1.F1) 720KCD

Bit late now but the AT XT45 in XHP 50.3 HI is a mid range thrower with good sustained high lumen output. Any sbt90.2 light without enough mass and good design heatsinking gets hot fast, its really only a 4-600 lumen sustained output light unless you like playing with turbo (heat permitting). Plus it’s a battery vampire.
