What is the brightest red LED flash light out there?

Does that mean the Solarforce colored LED drop-ins are not 225 like they say?

Look it up, e.g.
Cree XLamp XP-E LED Data sheet
www.cree.com/products/pdf/xlampxp-e.pdf
… amber, red, red-orange …

Olight M20s crimson is 105-110 lumens of red. And the Zebralight H51r is 90-100 lumens.
I own the Zebralight H51fr and it’s rated at 90 lumens, it’s brighter than the most the red dropins I’ve bought, except VinhNyugen’s 2amp xre dropin.

I think an Sst90 red could be brighter, at 3 to 5 amps. But heat would be an issue for running it for more than a few min

The flashlight wiki says the XRE R2 LED is capable of 250+ but the driver could well limit that depending on actual draw (and the Cree documents add that it varies slightly by color) . . .

. . . but not having a draw figure on the SF website I asked about the posted experience.

225 is possible (maybe probable), but we have conflicting info on the SF website about P4/R2 bin and from someone posting above. Still wondering.

225 lumens of red, might not register as 225 lumens in a light sphere? Would be my guess

It may be possible with the proper heat syncing, if you maxed the safe amperage. My Vinh made dropin, which is run at a higher amperage than I thought safe for an xre might be 200+ lumens calculated by lumines flux, voltage and amperage but it I couldn’t tell you if it actually was.
The xre and xpe are 625nm - 630nm, which isn’t a deep red but still fun.

I guess it depends on what and how the meter reads that WL.

Supposedly 200 is doable with only 0.7A for this bin. But you raise the question of whether the WL will work for my son (not spooking hogs).

You may want to look into a deeper red, 640-680nm. Get E1320 to make you a 3watt dropin, you won’t need more than 40-60 lumens with night adjusted eyes.
Smooth reflector for some throw

You could also turn just about any light you have into a red, blue, green, amber light by using colored lenses. Not as efficient but if you start with a 800 lumen light…………….

Good input, guys. He found a cheap red 501b on DX but he may get the SF high voltage drop-in since he wants something in single mode and I have hosts. Or maybe in time both to have parts for a custom.

Fenix store has diffuser lenses that fit some diameters and there $6 ish
If you get the 501b let me know how good it is

The DX 501b have red XR-C at least the one I ordered did. Typically red diffuser lens used on white leds will severely deplete output.

Really appreciate getting more input. Apparently the DX reviews say something about Crees instead of the spec’d LED . . perhaps the product is slowly getting updates based on led cost and availability.

Edit - I guess the other question is if you got an XRC, did you get something worse than they spec’d? My quick review suggests the K2 might be much better than the XRC?

The DX ad IIRC states Luxeon K2. In the last year or more Cree have been sent. The Green I ordered had a Cree XRE. The Red had Cree XRC. Guess my older Cree pdfs are out of date as no Red XREs are listed. Read the newer pdfs and suprise RED XREs. Mouser or Ledsuppy doesn’t list them. Who has Red XRE stars?

LZ4-00R100 @ 445 lumens.

Always something new and in a quad die. Where can I get one?

I picked up a PT121 red less than a month ago. 2000+lm

http://www.luminus.com/products/PT-121.html

Built a green PT120 aspherical last fall.

That thing looks just like an MCE.. havent seen them for sale anywhere tho.

I’m pretty sure they can be purchased direct from led engin. There is a phone number on that link to request quotes.

“I picked up a PT121 red less than a month ago. 2000+lm”

Nice! 2225 red lumens @ 30amps. I would love to have one of these built into a drop-in of some sort for one or any of my lights. Not in either of my Hellfighters, obviously.

Been getting my PT54 reds from DTRLPF for a while. Currently he has new pulls cheap 6@$50 on Ebay.

Mouser has LED Engin @ $36 + s&h.
