What really happens in Greece?

I still remember exploring the utter beauty of Mt. Ida and the surrounding areas as a teen.

Can one still go down into the “Cave of Zeus?”

While many european countries are in similar economic problems and have classic problems with corupion I personally think that greece problems are of different cause and I’m not really sympathizing with them. I’m going to be honest, Greece for many years supported Serbian government (Milosevic) and helped them to avoid international sanctions with their “soft” border politic while many thousand of innocent civilians were killed all over former Yugoslavia states. They are also very persistent with giving Macedonia trouble regarding their name Macedonia naming dispute - Wikipedia

What goes around comes around…

I read so many articles about Greece and its current state of economic challenge. I have yet to fully understand
the countries economic down turn. I have friends that own Hotels and have family in Greece and the reasons are too many. Perhaps that’s the answer only its difficult to understand because too many contributing factors. I think everyone has been mentioned here…

Yes, i am planning to go up there soon again! At night of course!!!

I have gone in the Samaria gorge, which is in the E4 too, at night!!

I won’t comment on the other statements, you might be right, can’t judge. But on this quote i made, it is a big foul of you, if you study history and read all the good papers/reports globally(of course I do not mean the greek ones), Macedonia was a greek civilization and part of the Greek history, it is NOT part of history of a Slavic nation that wants to grab themselves from a great historic name, in order to create a solid historic identity.

You might be right, but while Macedonia was one of the Yugoslavia republics there was no problem. As soon as they became independent Greece suddenly made a big fuss about it…

Agreed. What we do to get into problems AND how we respond to problems does define us.

Not to take sides with anyone, but its just business.

I probably wouldn’t ship anything to Greece…why would I when Ive heard other sellers dont ship to Greece and they may have postal issues. I would rather ship with in Canada, or within NorthAmerica.

Seller doest receive package within 45days asks me to make it right, or goes to PayPal and I am out the shipped item, plus the refund amount. So as a seller you want to make that chance as small as possible.

Just like a LOT of USA ebay sellers/US websites wont ship to me in Canada. They dont want to fill out a customs form, or get a postal quote or whatever, so no problem they just ship to USA only.

I am an old ebay buyer, and in the past 10 years maybe I lost a package once or twice, in the hundreds that I received. At the end of the day if someone is afraid of posting something to Greece they can always offer recorded post. This is what I always suggest to someone who doesn't post abroad, and that's the smart thing to do if you are a seller. Recorded post never gets "lost" and buyer cannot lie about it. Shipping to Italy is really a different matter though... :P

I will not tell you how to make business, but your are not mentioning a reason why you shouldn’t-don’t ship to Greece. I respect a decision only if it is properly justified.

You are right too, but before in the United Yugoslavia, in the Skopje, no one was considering themselves as macedonians, they were inhabitants of other civilizations that live now in a place where ancient Macedonia was. Now, they are considering themselves as ancient Macedonians, they want to make this unique greek identity their own. The problem is not geographical it is a matter of fake ethnicism and misleading history from the truth.

@others that consider not shipping to Greece:
I am an old ebayer and online purchaser too, with maybe almost 1000 purchases online. I have lost 4 parcels, in all of the cases i was not sure if seller had truly sent the package. In fact, 3 of them were bad sellers as it proved later, only in one case i tend to believe that seller did truly sent the parcel.
Post offices work just fine, there might be sometimes delays, especially in Easter and Christmas, but it is logical. I still receive parcels from America in less than one week, in an island and unregistered!
If you want to be sure, just ship registered and make a comment that it is buyers’ full responsibility. It is as simple as it seems! If you just don’t want to have the fuss of international shipping, it is ok, but if you can, there is no difference between Greece and other countries.

This would be okay if you could ship at buyers risk, just put in the mail, dont email me if it never arrives, dont ask for refund or reship, seller just mails and give you tracking.

Then again maybe someone in Italy will post about their shipping woes and how postal service there is reliable, people are honest, dont judge by govt etc…but still lots of people dont want to ship to Italy. Or Nigeria or wherever else. Just find a buyer who will ship to you.

I want to have a uk workers average hours, I hit them by Thursday and was off Monday…….

I agree Greece is being nailed as the lazy cousin of the eu, and its wrong. As jeansy says, if you want an example of laziness, look to a large proportion of UK resident’s who want money but do not wish to earn it, I include most politions in this group….

Shipping aside. Seems like the entire central banking system and economic principals in Greece are built on a foundation
sturdy foundation of lies and corruption. Like here in the US only when the economy takes a severe detour can the underlying corruption surface to reveal what it truly is. By now most of the big money invested in Greece has pulled
out and returned to there native banks. And the common folks deal with the reality that there very own leaders have
diversified there portfolio. I cant get into the details because i haven’t studied the social and economic fabric in Greece
I love Greece, many great memories there…The people are truly one of the best assets but this economy has some
serious hurdles and i hope the Greece people are ready. I hope the US can lend a hand.

Ship at a buyers risk??? LoL I am sure many sellers especially from China would never ship the item in the first place!!! That would be seller's paradise if shipping was at buyer's risk. Are you also going to tell me that unrecorded post never gets lost in Canada or the US? Let's be serious... If someone is ignorant or has a prejudice and doesn't want to ship it's a different story, but like someone else said, give me a solid reasoning why not to ship to Greece.

So now you don’t trust Chinese sellers to ship…but those vendors should take risk and trust shipping to you. Hmmm.

Im sorry people dont want to ship to you in Greece, it just is what it is. If you dont know why people rather not ship to Greece/Italy/Nigeria maybe go on Google or read the Ebay forums to get some insight to the sellers perspective.

Best of luck with your shipping. Its not personal to you. Its just business that some vendors have determined where they will ship to.

I found a 3rd party shipment company you can use. Just register and they give you a USA address. Then they reship to you for a small fee.

Something for nothing is barbarism (sic). Expecting donations and welfare and taxes and other forms of theft is barbarism.

True capitalism in any clothes is about as free as you can get. Everybody can put the capitalist out of business by just not buying or doing any kind of business with them. Don’t buy a better product or anything at a better price; and certainly don’t take a job that rewards someone else for their risk. And the ultimate win is to do a better job than the capitalist and offering a better product at a lower price after paying higher costs for materials and wages AND taking no subsidies while giving away all of your profits to others and not keeping anything for yourself beyond a minimum wage among those you employ.

Failure to win against capitalism is losing. Rather than competing with improvements, complaining about it is whining and a form of barbarism.

Some “capitalists” are not capitalists at all, they are barbaric crooks and one is mistaken when confusing the two. Few socialists add any value by creating a better product sold competitively without tax subsidies . . they are almost all barbarians.

esrevenge, you still failed to answer what another user asked you... and if someone decides not to ship because of what he/you/whoever hears about Greece and you just take stupid, unsubstantiated things for granted, then I suppose maybe things they say about Canadians are also true and we all should also take them for granted. This is how "intelligent" we should all be or already are, and how we should all treat each other... I rest my case with this matter. Keep believing whatever you hear or read. There are loads of Greek/Canadians over there (I have many friends there) why don't you ask them about Greece and Greek people?

Instead of worrying about who isn’t shipping to whom, perhaps we should wrap our minds around this.

Don’t you worry about that, we are coming, right after you
Already Finland taking more loans than we can pay, debt is NOT YET too large but it will be.

Helping other countries is expensive also, but not the main deal.
Some people criticize it because it makes big losses almost by snapping fingers.

IMO I cannot see greek people as ones to blame, not even greek politics. But banking practices, uhhh…

This whole thing: “give money to X country in debt to help” is a bit misleading when you should say: pay the money to a bank, which has been taking huge risks to make enormous profits by funding blindfolded as much as they can.

For last, two things:

“Too big to fall…”
“Give man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, feed him for a lifetime”

In the US, the ‘losers’ as you put it have the right to pursue any career they’d like to…open a business, create a product, go to school etc…if they choose to be lazy, they will end up in the bottom half. You should be painfully aware of how well it worked when the government was in charge…where is the GDR now? Sounds like you miss it.
