Maggie the Mag or Maggie May as I like to call her. Helping a well used Mag back to life. Photo Heavy - It's Done!

Have you made a decision about the emitter yet?

Yes,

I couldn't find all that much and didn't find what I wanted. Craig at IS had some T5 leds on 14mm stars and I was going to put one on a short pedestal, so the beam could be adjusted, by turning the head in and out. Unfortunately he's out of stock. I ended up getting a T5 on a 20mm star, so it will not be a focusing beam, but a pre-focused beam. Not what I wanted, but what I got. The driver is coming from E1320. 1.7A. I'm not going for mega bright, just a light more similar to a stock maglite. Well, it will be brighter, but you know what I mean?...

So no hotwire..^^

Actually 1.7A is great for runtime and brightness. If I had any patience, I'd mod my bigger Maglites, too. But I'll stick with the 2AA Minimags.

How much is a 4D Maglite in the US? I have one I dont really need..

20 dollars.

Not great? That’s fantastic!

Old Lumens, your a hard task master. Plus 1 with JohnnyMac.

Really, I have just learned how to angle something, so when I take a shot of it, it comes out loking good, without showing how far off center it is. The center wire is off quite a bit. (I didn’t use my drill press), old habits die hard and I drilled it by hand. It’s way off center, but at the right angles, it does not look that way.

I'm laughing. Honesty? Why would he tell us its crooked and then take pictures that show that it is all true? Funny buggers. I still love your work. I have fitter and turners at work that using a lathe you put them to shame with your basic tools. Good stuff.

Because I did? or because I can.Wink

The back end is really out, you can see it easily.

The front is less obvious, but still off center to the right (actually more towards 2 o'clock). Yes, I expect perfection, but I've never found it in all these years, so I continue to try and when it's close I grudgingly accept it, but when it's not, I reject it.

To me, this is a throw away, even though I'm not going to throw it away.Tongue Out

The light is done now.

Most plastic will be fine. Some epoxy will resist degradation by KOH, some won’t hold up so well.

Cole Parmer has a decent chemical compatibility database. Select “All” from the material list and “Potassium Hydroxide (Caustic Potash)” from the chemical list.

Excellent work, Justin!!

I like that a lot, it also gives me some inspiration for my own 3d mag build. The emitter and driver arrived today, next I need to source the copper for the heatsink, then rip it apart, take some measurements and I can give my dad the copper and a drawing of what I want, unless him and his partner really will let me loose in the machine shop…… Then we’ll see what I’ve forgotten in the twelve years since I last used a lathe.

Great work Justin, I love your builds.

Most Excellent !!!

I LOVE the tint! Is that a neutral or warm white?

Thanks everyone, but there's an odd end to the story. I am not known for my patience, believe it or not. Well, ok, I don't have any patience (dammit)Innocent, so after all I did for Maggie, I still see her looking out the window towards home. I still hear a sigh in her voice (I think it's the noise from the driver), but it could be a sigh. She definitely misses Joe, or maybe it's Tom, but either way, I just can't stand a melancholy Maglite, so I gave her bus fare to go home in the morning.Tongue Out

Hope you enjoy the new look Joe.

5,000K, but with it only being driven at 1.7a, I noticed it looked just a little “incan”. I liked it too.

As it turns out, 5000K happens to be my favorite tint, and she’s driven lightly so she’ll never over-exert!

As I stated in my first post in this thread above, I have no words! To date, I’ve been sleeping with a 2 D with the original Mag LED drop-in next to the bed for emergencies. Now Maggie will fill that role. She’s back on duty, even though the new duty is at the side of an out-of-play officer who has seen better days. In her case, it looks like her best days are ahead of her yet!

Again…no words!
