Olight M3x Problem

Not having much luck with lights this week if you have seen my keygos post, anyway…. when i run the olight m3x light without the extension tube everything seems fine. But when i use the extension tube with 18650 batteries once the light is turned on it will go off and on at random, seems to turn off when i point it downwards or knock it. Is this a common problem?? iv checked everything is tight but this actually seems to be the problem…. if i back the extension tube off a bit and then back the pocket clip ring back to it to ‘lock’ the extension tube slightly off the main body it seems to work perfectly?! Im using xtar 18700 and tank 007 18650 batteries.
So basically im wondering if there is actually a problem with this light or am i just being petty??
Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Check the anodizing where the extension meets the main body. It sounds like it may be preventing a consistent ground/contact area.

hi, and what if it is that?? should i try remove it from the inside of the extension tube??

It depends where the problem is, but generally speaking, yes.

EDIT: Only in the area(s) that make metal-to-metal contact.

So essentially when you tighten the extension tube down without the clip, making the light its shortest 2-cell configuration, you get the intermittent power?

Sounds like it might be crushing the protected cells. I have seen some protected cells do this, when the battery springs are compressed flat and excessive pressure is placed on the stack of cells.

with the clip on or off it has the same reaction…. iv tried tank 007 18650 cells and xtar 18700 cells and it does the same with both… iv actually not tried it with 4 cr123 yet…. maybe this should be my next move.
As soon as i back the extension off 2 or 3 mm and tighten the clip ring up to it its 100% ok.
i could live with doing this but just doesnt seem right to have to fiddle about with a light like that to get it working. i will also be having a look at the anodising although i did look at the threads and contact areas today and couldnt see anything apparent.

Send the light back to Olight. They should probably give you a new one.

yes iv just contacted them…. they say i should be looking at a replacement from the supplier…… its obviously some sort of fault.
i looked for other threads on this but i seem to be the only person its happened to!!
