I gave a SS 503B to a friend about three months ago (Giggly-giggly “stainless, me wants! Shiney! Me give!!!”). Although I told him to best use an incandescent bulb for the time being, he insisted on an XM-L dropin (yes, with stomping feet and everything) - so, I got him a SF three-mode XM-L as well. Funny how grown-up men in their late 30s can be, sometimes.

surprisingly, the stainless torch does get hot within minutes, actually.

even more surprisingly, the dropin and emitter have both hold up quite well, so far.

Personally, I’d bore out the head as much as possible, then press in a copper sleeve with a conical bore; for a snug press-fit of the dropin.

Conclusion: While SS might not be the greatest choice for a heatsink, I guess it is still better than, let’s say, composite plastic.

PWM? If it becomes available with an OP reflector and high frequency PWM then I’d be in.

Yes I’ve just built something with one, no there is not any pwm, or blinkies, yes I very very much like it. :bigsmile:

Apex ST6 uses 7135x6 driver. We have no tools to test the PWM for the moment, but 7135 driver is very common and stable.

Though the reflector is SMO, the beam is very nice, no rings around the hotspot.

Build quality is very nice too, surely worth 40+usd. So Group buy price 25usd worth every penny.:slight_smile:

Ric, I live in the united kingdom, fancy flashlights won’t accept my post code, it tells me a zip code should be numeric, I don’t have a zip code just a post code. Can you help? I’m ready to pull the trigger but an obstinate web system seems to be stopping me.

They certainly ship to the UK - I got the DQG through the group buy some time ago. I seem to remember that if you put all your address in the one field, including the postcode, it will be OK. Just ignore the zip code field.

Speaking as an engaged father of three, they are strange places, you can go in some and they don’t allow children, weird!

They sell expensive antidotes to the stress of running around after an over excitable two year old……

The good ones also have a real life chef (like the wife only worse looking but a better cook) this chef provides meals that you would gladly give up a torch in order to enjoy. Like I said, weird… :wink:

I think this would get more buyers if available in neutral. In a flashlight forum, most user are probably saturated with cool white lights, so responsive retailer can get more bites by offering something unique to add to the collection.
