Dealer has sent my m3x back unrepaired..... :-(

Well i got the m3x out this weekend iv been having problems with and screwed the extension tube on, dropped 4 cr123 in and screwed on the tail cap…… works perfectly. Got out 2 tank 007 18650 and dropped them in…… came on, had a quick look about the back garden with the dog and turned the light down onto low…. AND NOTHING. tried to back into high and it went off completely…. after a bit of cursing i went to the kitchen table and took out the 18650s and then put them back in…. nothing, iv literally checked everything with this light now… it just doesnt seem to want to know any 18650 battery and i wont be running it on primarys at the cost of those. So its gone back for repair or replacement…… i hope they find some thing wrong with it as im sooooo confused with the thing!!! am i the only one thats had problems with one of these? surely it should run off the batteries the manufacturer says it will!!! i also had to pay a tenner just to send it back!!!
…………wish me luck :~

Good Luck, Ady! :D

That's a real shame, hope it works out for you.

The manufacturer does say it will work with four cr123s or two 18650s. I would guess the problem is the lower voltage with the 18650s but it’s a name brand light and you would think the manufacturer knows what they are talking about. Are those batteries protected? Could be a battery problem. My bet.

hi, iv tried tank 007 18650…. my shortest cell and xtar 18700 (which is an 18650 they just called it 18700 because of the protection circuit) does it with both. iv sent it off now but if they say there is no problem with it i dont know what i will do. iv literally tried everything i can think of…… just need to hope the supplier knows what they are doing and i get a good result from it. the light is useless to me as it is at the moment.

I hope they sort it out for you. I wouldn’t want to be stuck with light that I can only use with four cr123s. Good luck.

thanks, so do i. 4 cr123s a night would be wayyy too expensive. :~ not seen anyone else with this problem but me…

Got a phone call about my light today…… distributer said its fine and is sending it back to me…… not impressed, i now have a useless m3x unless i can find an 18650 cell in the uk that will actually fit it. i really feel like im being fobbed off here :frowning:

I am thinking you have a connectivity issue or the opposite… a “cell crusher”.

Do me a favor and line up your 4xCR123 next to the 2x18650… is the 18650 total length close to the 4xCR123 total length?

Do the 18650 cells rattle inside the light when shook, any more than the 4xCR123 cells?

Are the 18650 cells getting crushed inside the light? If thats the case, then the protection PCB could be getting smashed and causing a mechanical power interrupt. Or the other possibility is the tailcap can not tighten all the way down onto the body tube end to complete the circuit.

ok i did this just before i sent it off, the cr123 are slightly shorter by 3.4mm, the cr 123 rattle yes…… the 18650 dont make a sound. if the extension tube is completly tightened to the body when trying to tighten the tailcap it stops as if it can go no thurther…. its definatly the lenght of the batteries thats the issue…… also in the tailcap is a brass plunger… im thinking of trying to mod this so it will give me that extra 3.4mm i need to get connection.

Do you have any unprotected or IMR cells? I would try those.

x2… flat topped cells might also work.
