My guess would be thicker, longer, heavier blades and the same steel as the 710 (8Cr13MoV). The larger blades have a liner lock instead of the integral lock (also called "frame lock") on the 710. My favourite blade shape is full flat ground for cutting and food preparation. I also like removable single sided thumbstuds, because when I remove them the knives are legal here in Germany to carry them in public. (they can be locking or one-handed-openable but not both and have to be under 12cm blade length)
Youtube videos (not mine , I just list them here!)
If flipper knives aren't forbidden (or forbidden in public) in your country you should also look at the Bee EL-01 (R) The Bee L05-1 (R) with double thumbstuds is also nice.
DX has only knives with inferior steel. The "new" Tekut knives from DX seem to be of reasonable quality.
Larger and heavier, they also have thicker blades and thicker pivots than most of the 700 series. The 900 series knife that people went nuts over was the 962, as it has a shaped blue-black micarta handle and a pretty good implementation of the Axis lock. Unfortunately, it's been discontinued and is stupid difficult to find now. I had one, the fit and finish were very good, but I sold it a while back as it was simply too large for me. I'm kind of annoyed that I did. I carry a 763 now.
962 - pretty much sold out - best alternatives with axis lock but smaller blades are SRM 763 (G10 handle) or the SRM 6261 (wooden handle) . In case you want bigger blades and axis lock... look at the Ganzo Folding Knives .
Fot the price i can't say anything foul obout it. Maybe the blade could be made from stronger steel and the lockout if not done with a fair force isn't reliable.
I disassembled it and grinded the blade a bit where the lockout is and managed to make it more reliable without adding any unwanted side play.
Pretty satified with it. Came reasonably sharp that i did not bother (yet) to sharpen it. Will do in the future when i get a suitable set of stones to make it razor sharp.
It is not a thing i qualify as EDC even if our law enforcement is not overly tedious for such knives (automatics and daggers are forbidden) but you might have some explaining to do if cought with one. Most often the reson why you carry one.
I can legally carry any single edge sharpened blade whose size is equal or less than an average 4 hand fingers which translates to under 7,5cm.
I have this one, it is cheap and not bad at all, but the SRM, Bee, Enlan, Ganzo and Navy knives should be more than 2-3 steps up in quality. SRM is producing for the major western brands like Buck. The steel used in SRM knives is also used by Spyderco (Tenacious... a 50$ knife), Buck and others.
Shouldn't your knives be bigger with a name like anduril than a SRM 710 ? ;-)
I doubt anywhere in the EU would permit what Anduril carried. Round here mere possession of that could get you 5 years to forever in prison. But I'll not rant about our current and previous governments.
Liberty, they've heard of it. And said, @$%%$^ that!
In Germany you can, if you have a reason like a theater play, a knife show or something similar. Anduril is not the guy (Aragorn) it IS the sword:
"I am Andúril who was Narsil, the sword of Elendil. Let the thralls of Mordor flee me."
A female Ecuadorian friend of mine has a nice collection of training Kung-Fu swords, staffs, daggers and so on, with which she practices in the local city park. She does get some raised eyebrows from others over her extensive martial arts weapon collection when she is shadow fighting in public, but she didn't have any problems so far.
Just a really quick heads up since life is keeping me pretty busy at the moment: it looks like Meritline is having a sale on some knives at the moment. Nothing too exciting, but there's a 763 for $10 shipped, which looks pretty good to me and a 704 for $7, which is still an okay deal in my book.
Stay away from the knock-off Mant*s Chaos clone though. I got a couple from the first batch and those are okay but from what I hear, the second and later batches turned out to be crap. The one ML has on their website appears to be one of those because mine look different.
Disclaimer: haven't ordered from them before but it looks like they're legit.
A friend just got his SRM 905 in about ~10 days from tinydeals... very nice, very impressed with the high quality so far.... way better than my DX knife (see above).... I ordered the same from priceangels.... still waiting...I got 905,908,909 in the pipeline... might do a little review when they arrive, if someone is interested..
You may have missed it but Meritline (see my post above) has the sand colored 763 on sale for $10, including free shipping. You're probably not going to find it any cheaper than that unless you buy in bulk. I have two and now I have another two on the way. HTH. :)
Nah i saw the post and recognized it but dont like the color but that does not matter since meritline does not like to ship in my country. Strange becasue it does ship on the top of Kilimanjaro if you so desire. :/
Hmm cheap SRM 763... this one maybe.... didn't display shipping cost (+0.00 for Europe)... but looks like a wholesale site.... you might have to try it yourself.
