edc upgrade from xtar wk26???

Hi, had my xtar wk 26 a month or so now and im just wondering about getting something better….(as an more power!!!)
Iv seen the jet beam pa10 and pc10 and kind of like those, i know this is a budget forum but i would actually spend a bit of cash on this.
Im looking for wow factor  … as in “how does that much light come out of something that small??!!”
Looking for something aroud the 100mm long mark, like the xtar but this isnt critical
It could also run on 14500 or rcr123 i dont mind either way.
Run time could do with been around 30 minute mark on high/turbo…. more is obviously better but this isnt critical either.
I quite like throwy lights but dont mind if its a bit of both flood and throw.
Also something ‘off the shelf’ that wouldnt need modding is better for me.

Any ideas

For a cheap “how does that much light come out of something that small??!!” Get yourself a Trustfire Mini-01 Review: Trustfire Mini-01
This is seriously impressive on an rcr123. Approx 500+ lumens.

Then a Solarforce L2M with your choice of P60 drop-in. Review: Solarforce L2M The Solarforce is about $15 and can be configured for different cells by adding or removing a piece of its body.

I have the exact same requirements. I also have the WK26 for several months now and have been searching for another better thrower, but still can’t find any. I can recommend Balder SE-1, which is a very nice flashlight, but does not have more throw than the Xtar. However, it’s nicely built and has a nice hotspot and modes and it’s just 20-something bucks. I will be ordering the R5 version as well.

I have been wondering for the JetBeam PA10 also, but I can’t find a decent review anywhere on the web.

Other than that there’s not much choice, if you find something interesting, please let me know

Both JetBeams you mentioned are XM-L lights! You need something with XP-G at least, i.e. JetBeam BA10 (or Klarus P1A). Put 14500 in them and WOW factor is guaranteed

On the JetBeam website they say only 97m beam distance for the BA10 and I think 134m for the PA10. 97 is lower than Xtar’s 105, and I also don’t see it accepting 14500 cells.

Yeah, 97m (didn’t check it myself) with AA, they don’t recommend 14500 :stuck_out_tongue: (anyway, it works w/o problems, just try to not overheat the light  )

PS: with 14500 it’s 2 times as bright (eye-meter). Read my CPF comments here.

the trustfire mini is brighter than the xtar? true? i think i have done without for long enough and have to have one of these.

Hah I see, then it is surely a contender here. Not to mention the price, which is half of the PA10.

Have you tested the Klarus P1A with 14500? They say working voltage is up to 1.8V. If you did and it works, which one is better, the BA10 or the P1A?

I bought my Jetbeam bc10 for $35 and change from goinggear. You put an aw imr 16340 in it and I promise you will be impressed and it has very good throw as well. I took mine out 2 weekends ago and it registered a .1 at 200yds on my brothers lux meter. Selfbuilt tested it at 167 yds at .25 lux. its a sweet , simple little light.

Yes, I was thinking about a CR123 light, they seem capable. I guess the slightly wider body allows for wider head, so better throw. The only good ones that I found were the BC10 and Klarus P1C. I guess both can use 3.7V RCR123 or 16340 for even more power.
I seem to like Klarus’ design more.

The Nitecore EC1 is very throwy and has some cool features, but is more pricey. It’s my pocket carry light.

pa10 definatly accepts 14500 but you lose ALL MODES appart from high… turns in into a 1 mode 650 lumen pocket light cannon! its about £55 here in the uk though……. a lot to pay if it only slightly betters the xtar, i think it should be way brighter though as the xtar is only 250 lumen at best.

Weren’t you looking mostly for throw? The PA10 won’t throw that good, as it’s XML emitter. Also why paying 70 bucks, when you can pay half of that for Klarus P1A…

Another awesome little light is the Eagletac d25c clicky. It is an xml also so again not super throwy but with an imr it puts out a wall of light that would impress anybody. We tested it at 667 lumens iirc. It’s a little more pricey at about $50 but well worth it. On primarys it even has the sub lumen mode that so many people love.
