Match's Riddle: Drinking and modding...Answered

Do you like math? Here's a word problem for y'all:

So...say the wife and kids are out for the evening, and you're left home with nothing more than the following:

  1. Lathe
  2. Leftover parts from a ceiling fan
  3. A box of misc drivers/switches/leds
  4. 1 bottle of Patrón Añejo

Find the sum of the above parts.

Remember to account for variables such as background music (Pink Floyd), pestering by inquisitive dog (basset hound), and attention span ( think goldfish here...). Creativity is inversely proportional B.A.C. after 0.1

This simple equation might help:

Any answers? (I'll know myself in about 3 hours Tongue Out ) Times up.

Answer:

Specs:

  • NW Cree xm-l
  • Carclo frosted wide TIR lens
  • 8x7135 driver
  • McClicky forward clicky
  • black rubber tailcap

Again, no real thought process or planning went into this and I just used spare parts I had on hand. For example, I wouldn't have used the forward clicky with a 3 mode driver, but C'est la vie...

The body is an aluminum extension tube leftover from an overhead ceiling fan installation. The head is a piece of 3/4" copper plumbing pipe, and the lens retaining ring and tailcap are from leftover barstock. The emitter and driver are mounted in a solid copper pill, again milled from spare barstock (much like the mini mags I do). I'm particularly happy with how the tailcap threading turned out.

Here's a few more pics of the work in progress:

This is what happens when your beloved Basset Hound interrupts you while parting:

Final pieces parts before assembly:

And after assembly and polishing:

I'm really starting to like those little frosted wide TIR lens's. Perfect neutral white flood. They're definately not as efficient at passing light, but with an xm-l at 2.8A, it'll still light up the whole back yard at once Cool

Once again, thanks for reading.

Drinking always makes me smarter.

I might have to have some to figure out that equation!

Pretty simple, because your equation is written in Chinese I would say you are building some kind of budget Chinese camping flashlight.

I don't get drunk ...

I get AWESOME .

I’m horrible with math but I know that when I see a problem that involves Patrón, the outcome is never good.

I envision something like this

or

or 0.5

Only thing I recognize is the quadratic equation, everything else is ^. Maybe I can do it once I take algebra 2! I think I’m just taking this too seriously.

I think the second one is an expression of blood alcohol level where ao is the size of the shot glass and L is about to get the spins from summing sines and cosines.

Original post updated. Time to go to bed....

soo, time for a giveaway maybe? O:-) looks like a very nice light!

very nice and a good looking piece. Is the patron empty?

Nice work. Which part came from the bottle?

Just remember, when you loose a couple fingers, from having a few too many, I told you so. :stuck_out_tongue:

Party on

Seriously, it is a nice looking light! Thanks for posting it. A nice “out of the box” idea

Amazing as usual Match!

congratulation on you’re new flashlight , very interesting, I like the simple design .

alcohol + lathe = hospital (It would for me anyway)

Have you ever dabbled in anodizing?

Nicee. How long did that take you?

Lol
