MXDL SA-21 Cree Q4 1-AA for $6.99?

Had not seen this one before - it got my attention, as any Cree flashlight under $10 would:

Anyone familiar with it? The only SA-21's I've seen offered have a Luxeon emitter, rated at 35 lumens. This seller specifically states a Q4 rated at over 90 lumens.

What the heck, I just ordered one.

Good find. :)

It looks like the Osram emitter Ultrafire RL something or other. Excellent price too.

The price isn't too special. QCG/SZW states 35 lumen and a color temp of 11300K. That's fugly! It's obvious this is a generic led, no Cree or Osram.

Wholesale price is $4,89 and even KD sells it for $7. I'd say stay away but YMMV.

I bought it because I thought it is the same as SmallSun C89, which is a nice flashlight.

But this one is low quality generic led flashlight. Stay away. Even this one, basically the same but cheaper is of better quality.

Hi Hrvoje, sorry I didn't quite understand... You did buy the MXDL SA-21 from Ledshoppe? And the generic lookalike from Focalprice is also decent? Thanks for the help, I am sort of considering buying one of these.

I saw this type cree flashlight is also under $10

3W Adjustable Zoom Focus LED Flashlight Torch

Yes, I've had both, and C575 from Focal price is a better value for money.

Thanks for the comments. I already ordered one, so I'll report back when I get it. I've had good luck with ledshoppe in the past, so I would be disappointed to find that they they intentionally overstated the led type. Similarly, I'd be disappointed if an MXDL turned out to be junk since I've had some luck with these, too. Quality aside, the price point of <$1 per 10 lumens still intrigues me.

Yeah, this turned out to be a bust. Some kind of generic led, certainly not a cree (not even an osram). It is brighter than any of my other generic lights, but probably not worth the extra price paid. Otherwise, the quality is decent - about what I'd expect from a light with the mxdl name. Still, better deals are out there.

Thanks for the valuable follow-up. So many times I see threads die with the OP not getting back and letting people know how things went. (I may be guilty on some counts too.) Really sad they had false advertising. (Not sure a single AA alkaline would even drive a Cree XR-E without a boost circuit.)

I've always wanted an MXDL SA-28, which seem to be similar to the SA-21, but a 3 x AAA zoomie.

I got one of the lights from the LED Shopp listed in the OP, it came today.

Just sort of a very bluish, generic LED light. Everything worked on it, no issues, but I'll probably just give it to one of my kids for use in the glove box of their car. It's your basic $6 flashlight, single mode, nothing to brag about.
