What is the purpose of a tanto blade?

Are you saying your first love is knives? Are you on any knife forums? Your being to hard on yourself. When you did ‘OHWHEHEHEH!’ I could actually see Justin B in my mind >) Oh, & what is the 9th hot?
Keith

Didn’t the Lone Ranger always have a tanto with him?

Amen, Bro!

Fess up, Cone. I want to know what the “ninth type of hot” is also! :stuck_out_tongue:

As a philosopher, I would argue that strong psychological egoism is false. Maybe weak psychological egoism is true, though. Regardless, no need for cynicism

Lets face it, Tanto did all the heavy lifting in that show.

To answer Keith’s questions… My first love is anything with two wheels (this would include the General Lee when she is riding only on the left OR right side tires). All of the great Loves in my life now are not inanimate objects. I’m not on any knife forums. My tastes are very particular and quite intractable (I falsely think I know it all) so why bother. Those forums never seem like that much fun to me anyway. I only belong to one other forum, EDCF, and I’m sure there are members at both places that wish I’d scale back my forum membership to zero. Actually, I think people have a different perspective on me over there because, while I am the same person, the greater freedom of expression over here has allowed me to say more provocative and ridiculous things here in an often vain effort to be funny. I’m glad you liked the impersonation, but you should really find a better class of people to pal around with. I don’t know what the “9th type of hot” is, but I’m pretty sure my wife sees it every time she passes a mirror.

JohnnyMac, I hope that last bit help answer your inquiry too. Since Vectrex coined the phrase, perhaps we should defer to the originator.

And, Gimpy, I made a special note about this “I would argue that strong psychological egoism is false. Maybe weak psychological egoism is true, though. Regardless, no need for cynicism”. I’m going to really ponder this over the next few days. My psychology degree is almost twenty years old and I work in an unrelated field, so it is going to take me a some time to wrap my mind around what you just said. I’m also only a part time philosopher, so… The only thing I’m sure of is that I’d likely enjoy a long road trip (with no radio) with you.

If you are saying that Nutnfancy is doing most of that for our benefit, I guess I disagree. I also feel like there is always a need for “cynicism”. But since you don’t, have you ever considered buying the Brooklyn Bridge?

Real ‘stabby’ and hard to sharpen, IMO, the purpose of Tanto blades is selling knives. 8)

And it works. Lets face it, buying knives is like buying cars. We don’t usually do it based on rational reasons, otherwise we would all be driving Hyundais.

Oh no, we need that horsepower.

Seriously, Cars, knives, guns even computers fall into the same category. It’s not a modern problem either, I know an expert on Paleo Native Americans who says they find large blades way to large for practical use; essentially be explained as, “It’s a guy thing.”

Hehe, yeah. I need that Hemi, I need that 14” Bowie knife, just like my wife needs Jimmie Choo shoes.

Are Manolo Blahnik's already out of fashion by now? ... better sell my collection then. ;-)

Maybe we need a budget shoes sub-forum.

Or a bag sub-forum.
There should be a link to a good bag store somewhere here, no where did it go…

I use mine as a pry-bar tool to harest laptop cells. Works pretty well too IMHO

Ahaha I agreed. Only watched one of his vids, but kinda got the jist of him. He’s honest though.

Am I the only one who considers prying with something with a sharp blade not a very good idea? When you’re prying you might forget there’s an edge on the side…. apart from that, I’m with the tacticool theory too (and some of them do look cool indeed). As a chisel… not sure, Again, mainly cool factor. It’s exotic for most of us, as sushi, woks and Jackie Chan.

It worked on me...

oh, man! :open_mouth:

Cx, I’m guessing the little black rectangles are there to stop the edge of one blade from touching the top of the one below it when the case is carried about. Assuming I’m correct, are they a commercial product, or just something you whipped up DIY?

BTW, great idea using the long gun case to store/transport a bunch of fixed blades. Very industrious indeed.

Thank God for the internets, or I would of never known I was a mall ninja. Do I need to wear a costume?

Does this look like a shelf queen?

Seriously though, I have been attempting to replace my Blur with one of the budget knives. The first morning that I left my old faithful at home, I needed to scrape some gasket material from a pump housing. The straight front edge on a tanto blade works real good for scraping stuff off of a flat hard surface. I reached for my tanto blade and realized all I had was a plain edged Ganzo. I ended up going to my truck and getting a scraper.

Having said that, I can take the tanto edge or leave it, but I can honestly say I have never been in a situation where it hindered my ability to get work done or regretted having it.

If you like the way it looks, buy it.

I have also been trying out some not so budget knives. So far these are the only ones that make me giggle.
