Is this flashlight really 1000 lumen?

@f42: It pretty much depends how well it is driven. If it is somewhere near 3A, 1000 lumen are possible (at least OTF), but probably it is more like 600 lumen.

Okay I got mine today. THANKS to BLF, I always check mine over especially to make sure everything is okay, and in this case, it was NOT okay. The star foolishly is held in place by pressure from the reflector. The pill cannot be screwed down all the way or the reflector does not press the star against the pill. I know it sounds weird but you’ll see what I mean when you get yours. My pill was screwed in all the way, so the reflector was NOT pushing the star down so it was floating without touching the pill. So if you turned this on without fixing the floating star, I would imagine (as I have done in the past) you would see some smoke and by the time you figured out what it was, the emitter would toast.

Fix is pretty easy. Just pull the pill. They used like a 1mm drop of thermal grease (NOT thermal adhesive/plaster) so the star pulls away from the pill spontaneously without the needed reflector pressure . Wipe the grease off. (This is what I did anyway. Maybe someone else has a better idea.) Added a small glop of fujik. (Probably have to pop the driver to get the pill out enough to really do a good job with the plaster.)

Put the pill back in, but don’t screw it down all the way. Maybe two turns up on mine. Put delrin spacer on top of star. Reinstall the reflector so that it pushes down on the star and holds it in place. I assume I can screw the pill all the way in once the fujik dries? Will it hold a balky star by itself? I’m afraid that the reflector might melt or deform from the star heat.

Mine’s all fixed now. Takes a while to get warm, but it does eventually. Looks pretty bright but I need to wait until dark. Sorta like a C8?

Anyway, don’t turn the light on before you fix that loose star, or I would think the emitter will toast and you’ll have a nifty host instead of a flashlight. :wink:

Not in my case. I’ve sent them an email one week later. They told me that it was sent already and changed my status directly to “Shipped”.

HD2010 is unreal! Wow it throws great and it is super bright! Blows anything I have away at distance! WOWZZZERS!

Hahhahhah! I wouldn’t worry if the reflector was aluminum, but mine is genuine chromed Chinese plastic.

And just as I feared, the heat did cause the chrome to fall off the reflector where it contacts the white delrin spacer on top of the star, so that’s why I used the Fujik. Now the Fujik is holding the star in place (and NOT the reflector pressure), and I can back off the reflector just a hair so it’s not in direct contact with the hot star. Hopefully this will stop the heat from further loosening more chrome plate. Can’t screw the reflector too far out because that will screw up the spot focus.

Since the heat caused the chrome to fall off the plastic reflector, I thought it wouldn’t take much more heat to loosen the chrome plate in the actual reflector dish, which is only a few millimeters from where heat has caused the chrome to fall off. Once the chrome falls off even a small part of the reflector dish, a damaged reflector will pretty much kill the light.

I agree that this isn’t the best way to hold the star in place. Is there some better way to do it without Fujik?

I was told to use Fujik to hold balky stars in place by BLFers on several other lights in other threads. Should I have used something else? The grease isn’t enough to hold the star in place.

I have several lights with funky white rings on top of the star. The white ring did not exert enough pressure to keep the star in place. No other choice but to use a thin layer of Fujik to hold the star in place. Unless there’s another trick? Without the Fujik to hold the star in place, one star was smoking in a sipik — and one in a Ultrafire roasted and died.

For this light, you could screw the reflector all the way down and skip the fujik (or equivalent), but I still think the heat will deform the cheap plastic reflector or cause the chrome plate to fall off the plastic reflector. Of course, I could be wrong and erring on the side of being too safe. I have a tendency to do that a lot. :wink:

Have you got a c8 with an aluminum reflector? If so, why not see how it fits, I picked up two for about $8 might be better than worrying about the plastic one.
