Review: SkyRay STL-V2 XM-L T6 3 or 5 modes adjustable

Word of caution. SOME SR/FF HAVE THE THREADS GLUED. My first FF had no glue but everyone after did. Go slowly. HTH

Hello I wanted to ask you a question about SkyRay STL-V2  .
I read in forums that the dissipation is bad. Did you burn the LED to you?

Bye.

What happened to this ?

Here’s the website: FlashlightLens.com - Your source for high quality glass and acrylic flashlight lenses. - Flashlightlens.com - Online Store

However they do not sell the right lens for the STL-V2 as the following post says.

Nice glass……

Yeah I had one SR STL-V2 months ago, and driver stopped working. If I remember correctly I couldnt get to it from the reflector side (obviously threads were glued) And u cant pull the driver from the back of the head, from that side, because aperture is smaller. SO I had to break the driver, there was some retaining spring also, i remembe r correctly.

And now I have that good empty body and dont really know what to do with it. (Maybe, probably, its perfectly doable but just dont see how, to install some replacement driver. Didnt invest much thought into it yet :o )

Well I compared my FandyFire STL-V6 and Small Sun ZY-T13 Tuesday nite for throw. The FandyFire is definately the better thrower. The Small Sun ZY-T13 is definately the better value. Your talking about a light that is almost half of what the FandyFire STL-V6 is, and I will say that for less than $25 shipped, I know of no other XM-L flashlight that will beat it for the price in overall quality, throw, and has a side switch.

I aggree

My SR-STLV2 in wich driver stopped working and had to be pulled out is really all glued (all head parts, except bezel). So it will be difficult to get it working again.

I can maybe put some smaller driver or board through the front side, but I dont know how Ill fix it??

Also, myfriend insisted that he willlater try (I left it at his place) unscrew it with a help pf the vice. I dont think is wise thing to do, I thing he’ll just damage it…

Hi, is there a single mode or no memory driver solution for the stls?

I would also like to know that.

I would like STL-V2 with modes memory like Small Sun (always start on high), or vice versa (SMall SUn driver with higher current)

A driver guru to help us???

Kajman,

Could you elaborate on this a bit? I have the UniqueFire V2 clone that uses a 22mm driver. Is this different than the Sky Ray/FandyFire V2? The SST-50 driver you referenced…
http://dx.com/p/8-4v-sst-50-5-mode-memory-circuit-board-for-flashlights-50025
…is listed as a 26mm driver. Were you able to remove 4mm of board to use this driver? I’ve installed this driver:
http://dx.com/p/t6-2500-3000ma-3-mode-regulated-led-driver-circuit-board-for-diy-flashlight-4-5-18v-128269
…in my V2 clone and it works well, but having to cycle through modes every time I use the light is extremely annoying.

@keltex
Yes, driver in SkyRay STL-V2 (and FF version?) is wider. I’m not sure if it is 24mm or 26mm.
———————————————————-
BTW, Im so frustrated with those drivers, I usually have what I consider almost perfect flashligt, but driver ruins it significantly.

I’ve moded my STL-V2 with dx ST-50 driver (I think I bought it from dx, months ago, and its old version of this driver, sandwich version.
And, whats the downside?? Well, memory is catching really slow, 8-10 sseconds. Really bad.
Old, stock driver memory would caught after 2,5 seconds, somethng like that. And this one 10 seconds :o eek

I have really bright thrower now, but this thing with driver is really annoying.

ALl that brought me to wonder: is it possible to mod it???
On some other topics, I thin about some zoomies, I’ve read how people messed up with some capacitors orsuch, to shorten or prolong time for memory to kick in.
If I ruin, for example, some capacitor on the driver, in theory, will I accomplish “alwasy on high”, or “always neyt mode”??

I would like to have it always on high, or at least shorter time for memory to kick in.

PS: Also, regarding that memory time: are “on time” required for memory to kick in and “switched off time ” required for memory to kick in always the same?

I pray for it every night

BTW, this is the driver I modded it width - it fits perfectly (pic from one other topic here)

But as I said, to long time for memory…

Experts, is this fixable??

PS: BTW, with this driver, on mid-mode its significantly brighter hotspot than Small Sun T13 , hehe. Uf, how I wish too have good amalgam of these 2 drivers… :o

I'm no expert but I remember someone having the same problem and to fix it you just need to change a resistor. I just have no clue which ones and how it works. :(

Wow, that's cheap...

Best review: "Very tiny flashlight. Fits in palm of my hand (the whole thing). I was thinking it would be bigger. That being said, it's brighter than anything I've used to date, so I am impressed. No problems."

Must be big hands

Does this light have memory mode and does that mean that over time it draws down the batteries? If so, if you don’t use the light for a few weeks you’ll find your li-ions dead?

Hi there, I hope you guys may be able to help me.
I have a Fandyfire stl-v6.
It fell to the floor from my table then ceased to work. At first I thought it was the driver, but after testing the battery voltages I found 1 battery had broken.
I have since ordered 2 new batteries, which work fine, however the torch doesnt!
Here is where it starts to get a little weird….
Ok, I try to explain best I can…
Well after a LOT of messing around trying things out, I managed to get some flashes out of it (wont stay on)
Around the emitter (led) there is a black plastic spacer. This spacer has always been there - I mistakenly forgot to put it back, and now it flashes a little when the torch is loose (and sparks lol), until you screw the whole torch tightly back together then it does nothing - at least the led is not burnt out. I thought it may be the switch but I hard wired it and it still only flashes a little.
Can anyone think what is going on?? it is driving me mad lol! Seems to me it is almost certainly a connection fail?
