Review: Trustfire Mini-01

Did you refer them to BLF? :)

One other father was overly interested (wife rolled her eyes) and I told him he can search on eBay to pick one up. He asked if I had any other lights of similar brightness and the conversation got started. I did mention BLF was a great place to start to learn the basics and then take it from there.

Nice. :D

Good to hear your liking it. I know what you mean about almost not wanting to carry it. Just keep telling yourself it was only $15 or whatever you paid, that will make it easier. Or buy another  I think i will.

Not hitting the modes perfectly sounds like the issue i had at the start where it felt like i had to tighten the head too much to activate. Loosening the pill/reflector with a needle nose pliers slightly might help. It fixed my problem. Its now smoother in operation and hits high, low, strobe everytime i change modes.

 I like that you ‘just had to’ light it up in the cinema. I bet that was fun

This has a floody kind of beam me thinks, correct assertion?
Decent throw too

Yes its very floody, but with reasonable throw for its size due to the amount of lumens it puts out.

I’ll do it again

Regarding the mode switching, if done a little faster than normal there are no issues. I think I will end up shortening the inner spring to relieve some of the upward pressure. It would certainly make the rotation a little easier without the constant thread grinding.

Yeah, sounds like a plan. Keep us posted on how it goes.

mags, you should make up some ‘referral cards’ with the BLF web address to hand out when you go to the cinema. That would likely guarantee some ‘conversions’ to members…

Thanks, Matt. I’ll mess with it a bit.

It was a hit last night at the pub. The security guard LOVED it.

By the way, it is more floody because of the OP reflector. It’s a LOT of light for a tiny pocket/keychain torch - too much, really. Which is awesome. If someone finds a suitable smooth reflector that would fit, I’d be down to replace the original. Just because.

Yeah i can imagine it would make a great little backup light for a security guard

I think every flashaholic needs this little light. Just my opinion.

I would certainly love to put in a SMO reflector, the throw would be better for sure as more lumens would make the difference.

Nice pics. You really get an idea of how small it is sitting on that cd

EDIT: DVD :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve just ordered a pair of AW IMR 16340’s for the Mini-01

Oh, let me know how that goes, Matt. My TFF 16340s are awesome in this little beast.

And I totally agree, Mags. We should all have one. It’s a cool little torch. Nice pics!

Will do
I’m hoping it will pull about 2.9A like the Panasonic GCR18650CH. It will get very hot, very quickly, but it will be fun

ok thats it. i resisted this lil bugger since the day i first read this thread and other similiar threads about this light. cant take it no mo’
im gonna have to see what this guys all about, i knew i shouldnt have clicked on this thread today.

so i dont own any 16340’s. are there any sellers out there that includes a decent cell with the light? or should i buy them seperately? so where is most of you guys buying this light. theres a bunch on ebay…any respectable ones?

thanks

Mine came from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270983599351?\_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_2273wt_1151
Seems like a good one, so i ordered the second one there too.

The light comes with a Trustfire primary which throws out plenty of light, especially for such a small flashlight. But feed it a 3.7v rcr123a and it gets REALLY bright.
Depends on what you want the light for. If you want extended use on high without heat issues, then a primary cr123 is the way to go, that way you can drain the cell until its empty. Or a 3.2v rechargeable cr123 LifeP04 cell, but you need to be careful not to over discharge or the cell will get damaged.
A protected rcr123a seems the best option if you want BRIGHT, that way, if you run the cell too low, its protection circuit should save any issues.
