Review: Trustfire Mini-01

mags, you should make up some ‘referral cards’ with the BLF web address to hand out when you go to the cinema. That would likely guarantee some ‘conversions’ to members…

Thanks, Matt. I’ll mess with it a bit.

It was a hit last night at the pub. The security guard LOVED it.

By the way, it is more floody because of the OP reflector. It’s a LOT of light for a tiny pocket/keychain torch - too much, really. Which is awesome. If someone finds a suitable smooth reflector that would fit, I’d be down to replace the original. Just because.

Yeah i can imagine it would make a great little backup light for a security guard

I think every flashaholic needs this little light. Just my opinion.

I would certainly love to put in a SMO reflector, the throw would be better for sure as more lumens would make the difference.

Nice pics. You really get an idea of how small it is sitting on that cd

EDIT: DVD :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve just ordered a pair of AW IMR 16340’s for the Mini-01

Oh, let me know how that goes, Matt. My TFF 16340s are awesome in this little beast.

And I totally agree, Mags. We should all have one. It’s a cool little torch. Nice pics!

Will do
I’m hoping it will pull about 2.9A like the Panasonic GCR18650CH. It will get very hot, very quickly, but it will be fun

Cheers
Matt

ok thats it. i resisted this lil bugger since the day i first read this thread and other similiar threads about this light. cant take it no mo’
im gonna have to see what this guys all about, i knew i shouldnt have clicked on this thread today.

so i dont own any 16340’s. are there any sellers out there that includes a decent cell with the light? or should i buy them seperately? so where is most of you guys buying this light. theres a bunch on ebay…any respectable ones?

thanks

Mine came from here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/270983599351?\_trksid=p5197.c0.m619#ht_2273wt_1151
Seems like a good one, so i ordered the second one there too.

The light comes with a Trustfire primary which throws out plenty of light, especially for such a small flashlight. But feed it a 3.7v rcr123a and it gets REALLY bright.
Depends on what you want the light for. If you want extended use on high without heat issues, then a primary cr123 is the way to go, that way you can drain the cell until its empty. Or a 3.2v rechargeable cr123 LifeP04 cell, but you need to be careful not to over discharge or the cell will get damaged.
A protected rcr123a seems the best option if you want BRIGHT, that way, if you run the cell too low, its protection circuit should save any issues.

Cheers
Matt

The TF primaries suck. Not much capacity. Certainly need some 16340 to make it really shine anyways.

I have good results with TF flames fromDX, but you have to wait forever to get them.

Pick-up a pair of Yetzl 3.7v 16340 batteries from here: 2x Yezl top quality16340 / CR123a rechargeable 3.7v protected batteries +case | eBay
Much better than the TF flames…

UK to Canada >> 10 days to my door

just recieved mine this weekend…… very nice little light  got a 600mah xtar 16340 in it at the minute…. may try an unprotected in it when i get round to buying one

Is it a bright hand warmer?

yep… gets nice and hot after a minute or two…… took dog out to a mates and took it with me and got the response “what the hell is that” when i turned it on in his back yard lol

I get that response all the time….last one was…“I can’t believe that little thing gives off so much light”

Yeah, it really does hold its own against even bigger more expensive lights. Throw could be better, but its sheer output helps it throw far enough for most purposes.

Cheers
Matt

I also like the low mode on this light……you can keep it there for quite some time without it burning up and the light output is pretty good.

Yeah the low is good. I think a different driver that could do just Low first, then High would be good too for a general edc.
