6 Xm-l light bar build

Wow, that's friggin' amazing!

Ok, understand what you mean. There would be some personal preference in choosing aiming, depending on terrain and use. Now hurry up and finish them, you have customers waiting!

Very nice!

Will it run on 24V as well?

9-24v input.

Circuit boards are in hand, leds and components are ordered. I am hoping to have these ready in 4-6 weeks.

I’m thinking the same thing, one should fit perfectly into the centre opening of my bumper!

Aluminum, boards and components. I drove them up to the assemblers Yesterday. I should have them back in a week. Time to start machining on the housings.

Looking good, did you consider the U2 binned emitters?

Nope. I will not go over 5000k for these. Any higher then that and it causes eye fatigue and no color rendering. Not good for fast driving. Maybe if they came out with a U2 neutral. I can get T6 neutrals, but they where not in stock and cost a lot more. With this much light you are probably not going to notice a few hundred lumens.

Cool, I thought it maybe due to the tint but that also explains why not the T6. Looking forward to seeing more

glad to see updates on this one. I am interested in buying one.

Following with interest

I got the first batch of 165 boards back from assembly. They look great. First one tested good. Housing machining should start later this week.

I wish I had a need and the money to buy one of these, they look very professional and built by one of our own!

Woah. very nice stuff. I’m impressed.

Look Great BigToy! Circuit board assembly shop did a really nice job. They look almost as good as the prototype that I hand soldered  (Kidding, They obviously look much better).

Here is the final design. Production will start in the morning. Finished units will be anodized black and be laser engraved on top. The light has a dull finish because I bead blasted it for a nice uniform finish. It will look good under the anodize.

wow, that’s one serious chunk of aluminium. How long does each one take to machine? Looks like the fins go down a long long way! Nice touch with the cable entry and sealing, looks like some thought went into that.

What’s the second piece of alu that goes under the face plate - is it to help retain/align the optics?

That looks awesome! :open_mouth: I think this will turn out to be my xmas present to myself. I have wanted some fog/driving/off highway lights for a while and this should fit perfectly and check off almost every box on the list of requirements.

Around 30-40 minutes of just machine time, not including band sawing, deburring, blasting etc.

The second piece is the optic holder.
