SKY RAY 9xT6 9xCREE XM-L T6 2x/3x26550/18650 5000LM 5-mode Super Brightness Flashlight---Brightness Over DRY

I Guess I Misinterpreted Previous Comments about the X100 because I was under the impression that the LEDs were driven acceptably well for a high-output light. Is it generally thought that it should have a stronger driver for optimum performance?

Also, how much perceptible difference do you think a driver replacement would make in the apparent output (X100)?

And last, how difficult would it be to change the driver in the X100?

Thanks,
Bob

I am about to order my first MULTI LED Light.

This one is literally identical, but with only 5 LED’s.

I can’t imagine battery life with NINE LED’s to push. Heat has to be an issue…

Maybe its just me. The 5’er can be had for $50. It comes down to $10 per LED and just how many you want!! Lol.

I’d for sure use three batteries to push 9. That’s 1 Battery per 3 LED’s! Can you imagine how hard 2 batteries are being worked??

Nice light by the way. Looks Nice.

Just mumbling about...

18A is the teorethical total if all emitters were parallel driven. But don't really think it's driven this way.

9 emitters is an odd number. The easier way to drive them all would be 3 parallel groups of 3 series emitters each. This way a driver for 3 emitters could be used, and the total amp draw from the cells would be 6A.

Well, 6A is a big number anyway, I personally would not trust 18650 cells in this application, unless IMR. For decent 26650 it's all good.

Curious to hear about real world beamshot comparison. The 3 center emitters, with those extrasmall reflectors, would add to the total lumens output but the throw increment would be marginal.

Any thoughts?

I just pulled the trigger on a Sky Ray King and I was seeing how this is compared to it. I also want to know about how long this will stay on high. If this is as bright as I hope, imagine what the strobe is like

^^ are you saying you actually like the strobe function??

:Sp

I have tried with my 13pcs of multi XM-L lights, it’s quite nauseous. (my 4 DRYs have the older turbo driver with strobe).

I know I am probably the only one who likes strobe on these flashlights. I like to disorientate my brother with strobe for fun.

How much practical is this light ?

18A current mean 18Ax ~3.2V = ~60W of Heat

Actual runtimes…

I just received this light today. Unfortunately I can’t do tailcap readings or beamshots but what I can tell you is:

After about a 20 minute walk on high my batteries (AW IMR) had gone from 4.18V to Just under 3.7V.

The head although warm wasn’t hot.

The batteries were actually quit warm, but not hot.

You’ll need 26650’s as my 3 18650’s weren’t quite long enough so I couldn’t move the light around otherwise it would turn on and off.

My usually very consistent ceiling bounce readings gave me this after about a minute:
TK70 and TN30 - 120 to 125
Sky Ray - 175 to 185.

I’ve tested heaps of lights and compared them to tests on CPF and if you multiple my reading by 23 I think you get a reasonable lumens estimate.

Definitely a flooder this one but the hotspot is quite large and well defined.

TK70/TN30 around 2750 lumens
Sky Ray around 4150 lumens.

This thing desperately needs a side switch

after reading this post, it definetly gets my attention now! i was pretty close to buying the x100, but this clearly should be brighter with even more flood.
so im thinking the tk70 still outthrows this sky ray correct?
if i was shining at a tree…say 150 feet away, will the skyray or tk 70 be brighter?

hello rick,
can you guys offer this light in a light, batteries, and charger combo for 26650 cells.
i dont have any 26650 cells and a charger at the moment, and that would gather my interest even more in purchasing this light.

thanks

Thanks Rufus001 for the information. This light is now on my “to buy” list.

The TK70 definitely out throws the Sky Ray. The reflector of the TK70 is much bigger as are the cut-outs in the reflector. This is definitely a flooder NOT a thrower but it out floods MUCH more expensive lights. And heat is much better dealt with than in my Dry for example.

Put mine thru it paces last night.

Out did the DRY easy, although mine isn’t the Turbo model, the one before.

Will compare to the Spark, TJ-12 and TM11 tonight.

Heaps of light out of this girl, and does throw easily for 150 metres with heaps of white at the other end.

My Dry is the Turbo. I wouldn’t put the TM11 in that test tonight. It’s a lovely little light and you’ll hurt it’s feelings up against this bad boy. :frowning:

Sky Ray 9 XM-L is about 3200 lumens OTF. Same ballpark as the Trustfire X100 in OTF lumens. The TF X100 would out throw the Sky Ray by a wee bit.

You could gun the Sky Ray at > 3k lumens OTF for 2 hours with 2 sets of 26650 and it would not feel any pinch.

The good thing about this light is that it probably can operate in 2S mode with 2 x 26650, but for short periods only like 30 mins coz the TF 26650 protection trips at about 6.5 amps. The TF X100 is a 3S light, and the tubes are not interchangeable with the J12/J18 series. (would be good if it does, but nope the threads are totally different)

Next step, someone mod it with a $20 KD driver.

cant wait for some beam shots or just some comparison chatter. id like to know if it throws further and does or does not have a floodier beam/spill than the j12, and the king, dry, or tm11.

if floodier, can this be one of the floodiest lights available then?

How did you test it?
