Test / Review: "Himax 2600" 18650 batteries from "pingyi.co.ltd" on eBay (very poor results)

You keep harping on this whole “Samsung” point, how do you explain the fact that there are Sony & Sanyo cells found?

Nevermind their BS excuses?

You sound delusional throughout the whole thread, you realise that? It is like you are wanting to believe what you want to believe.

Gosh, just thinking about how Pingyi actually has the gall to suggest that just being asian means I must be some sort of a crook makes my blood boil. I am going to escalate the Paypal dispute RIGHT NOW.

What I also noticed about one cell (I can only share my observations, I dont have time for extensive testing).

I had one Keygose KE5 directly driven. One himax cell PCB was tripping (I havent checked the others), while trustfire flame PCB wasnt ftripping. SO go figure…

(To be sure: Im pretty positive that shortcircuit protectin on both cells is working. SO, iw wasnt short circuit, but overcurrent protection… So, if my observations are correct, and dont see why they wouldnt be, there is something wrong both with the cell itself and protection circuit mounted on it)

Have you tried discharging those same cells at .5A and compare the results?

I understand your point though, suppliers, from wholesale to retail, must at all times be dependable.

Discharging at .5A is really quite a pointless exercise, in actuality even our cheap $8 Solarforce P60 single mode dropins pull down 0.7A, what good do we have for a battery that is only able to deliver the goods at 0.5A?

What pisses me off with Pingyi can really be summed up as follows:

  1. they misrepresent their product
  2. their product isn’t cheap to start with… for a few dollars more I can get a dozen Panasonics…
  3. upon receiving word of the dispute, they make you all sorts of promises that they seem to have no intention of following through on
  4. when shown proof of their deception, their only defence is… I’m Asian? And I am a competitor? I don’t even live in China for goodness’ sake, and I’d wager every cent I’ve got that I am more conversant in English than anyone they or their competitors can afford to hire… just sayin’.
  5. I honestly doubt they did any comprehensive audits of their production facility as well. If anything, I get this strong sense that any words they say are merely lies meant to put us at ease.

I will give them one last chance to show us whether they are crooks or are truly honest folks that we ought to trust. No more empty words from them, only actions count. If I don’t get my money back as they promised I’ll simply fill up a form, pack their junk along with it, and send it off to the bank.

Such dishonest Chinese companies ought to be punished. If anything, it is jerks like these that gives all Asians a bad name.

The reason why I suggested a .5A discharge rate is that I have experimented with my iCharger hobby charger with, lets say, 2.5A on a 1800mah cell, in theory that cell will be fully discharged in less than one hour. I notice I never got to get the ‘real’ discharge capacity of the cell at such a high continous rate till full discharge before ‘done’ appears. Would you know the reason?
I know you just bought your CBA iv. I hope you’ll enjoy it. I’m enjoying my hobby charger too.

On the other hand, thanks for bringing your concerns into everyone’s attention, because I’m Asian too!

Wshyang,
For the record, I was not in favor of Pingi’s response. I’m not taking sides. I am trying to figure out why you had the Sony and Sanyo cell mixed in also.

What particularly disses me off is not only do they fail to address that point, they evade it by reassuring you that “oh, our stuff is all Samsung”, and then try to do the whole “the other guy is Asian!” thing.

Goodness.

Thanks very much for the heads-up review! Sticky’d.

After this cold shower about the value-for-money himax 2600, can anyone suggest another decent battery?

As an update, I managed to get a partial refund from Pingyi after escalating the issue through Paypal’s resolution centre. Not the most positive experience at the end of the day.

I tested all my 6 Hi-max cells, which was over a year old, not really harsh on them, discharged with iMax B6AC Pro at 1A, they still within + - 2400mah range.

Hi everyone,
I know, probably not the best thing to first post in such a controversial thread
I’m registered on cpf for a long time and found this forum just a couple weeks ago and realized, this is more me
I’m a cop from switzerland, we used to have surefire incans for a long time and I was making and giving led p60 drop ins to my collueges for a long time since i didn’t like the short runtime on the surefires… anyway, me and a friend from the department decided, that we didn’t like the fact, that we aren’t as versatile with drivers for 2x cr123a and decided to move to 18650… I ordered himax as a budget battery to start with BEFORE (about 1 week) this thread was started and got really worried that I, even after reading a lot of posts, made a stupid order…
so even before the himax arrived, I ordered XSTAR 3100 from efest, they arrived a couple days before the himax (was surprised how fast they arrived) and i was using them since them…
3 days ago the himax arrived and since my friend is into rc, i borrowed his accucell 6 to test the mah on those, just in case i i got screwed needed to get my money back…
luckily i seem to have been lucky because 5 out of the 6 cells testet above 2600mah with 1a discharge to 3.0v, they were between 2665mah and 2775mah (last cell is in the cradle for testing atm)… so unless i screwed up with testing, i’m really happy with the cells
nethertheless, i still think everyone ordering himax should test them, even if it was just one batch that sucked… you never know with china and quality control… even if the seller is legit, you never know what happens in the factory or during delivery or even during packaging… I guess it comes with the job that i distrust eveyone until i see prove :stuck_out_tongue: i’m used that everybody lies to me a little bit…

Welcome to the forum, spydee.

Thanks for the perspective.

This story has destroyed himax’s rep.
Can a “trusted” member do some new tests with these batteries?
If there is a war against them, we should give a second chance.

Just to complete my post, last cell 2686mah. Will do a XTAR next just to make sure my setup is correct :stuck_out_tongue:
and if somebody thinks i’m a fake account, thats my cpf account, it exists since 2009 but i havn’t been activ a lot, mostly reading…

Welcome to BLF, spydee and thanks for the post. Can you tell us where you bought your Hi-Max and Xtar cells?

XTAR from efest through bestvaping.net
Himax through ebay from pingyi link on the 24.08.2012 like I said, I was pretty scared when after I bought them, wshyang posted the results…

edit:
and once again, even though I had good cells (still testing a xtar to check the accucell-6 setup), until more people confirm that it might just have been a bad batch, I would suggest buying them only if you are able to test them…

The XTAR finished with 2808mah which means the setup works
I guess I got lucky with the himax :stuck_out_tongue:

This being the internet, nobody knows if you’re a dog, but I assure you there is no competition.

I can send off the lot I got to whoever will send me $19.90 plus shipping

I also have no animosity towards Pingyi (apart from the racist name calling), and I will consider buying their batteries again if they do prove to be good. If they genuinely are new Samsung cells, they really do give good value for money at the asking price.

If not… well, I will take my business elsewhere. Not exactly keen on playing lotto with these.

It's nice of you to join us, spydee!
