Whats the brightest 14500 light out there??

I own an xtar wk26 14500 light, it throws really well but i quite fancy something a lot brighter
Anybody have any ideas?? Modes dont bother me, it needs to be tough though as im a builder and its going to get some abuse sitting in my back pocket every day!!

eagtac d25a clicky. xml u2

estimated 600 ANSI lumens, direct drive. probably even higher. (770 ANSI lumens for the d25c clicky xml u2, direct drive too. both lights are very similar, measured by selfbuilt.)

Only thing is, don’t you lose the modes when run on Li-ion? You get direct driven and ultra low. And due to heat you can’t run it on high for long periods of time.

For only marginally bigger I’d have thought a D25LC2 Mini (twsity) would be a better bet, not as high lumens, but certainly more able to be used for longer periods of time. EagleTac even do a slightly slimmer D25C2 if you don’t want 18650 support (you could run the D25C2 on a 16650 or 2x RCR).

Other high lumen 14500 lights I know of:

-Niteye EYE 10 and it retains its constantly variable control ring

-JetBeam PA10, but loses all modes completely and just direct drives the LED, so again only good for short run times

-Sunwayman V10A/V11A does retain modes

-Xeno Eo3 does retain modes

However I’m not sure these are throwers and some ultra floody.

If you want throw I’d personally opt for an XP-G/XP-G2 light and accept lower lumens. Maybe something like the Nitecore EA1/EC1 (presume if you are happy with 14500’s then you’d also consider RCR’s?)

yes you do, just been watching some stuff on utube about the eagletac series… really like the look of them. shame about losing modes, im thinking im in the right ballpark with one of these eagletacs though

the D25LC2 has incredible runtime (on my Sanyo 2600mAh) on Turbo .. but it gets hot fast too. The D-series have excellent thermal path, copper pills, etc., very modern built design. Small aluminum mass (44g for the Mini D25LC2). But bigger lights (100g,..) do get hot too on their highest mode.

yes, you lose the intermediary modes (Med,..) and keep Low and Turbo only. i found it sufficient for my EDC needs: 2modes.

i dont mind using any batteries, i wonder if there is anything that doesnt heat up as fast that has around 500 lumens…. im actually now thinking i could infact look at a small 18650 light as the xtar is a little over 100mm long so a little more isnt going to make a lot of difference.

that would have to be a light with much mass ;)

btw, the most important heat-sinking is your hand imo.

All typical EDC light masses (< 60g) heat up fast at 350+ lumens i think.

What about Zebralight, do they heat up too?

Johnnymacs recently sold 1 14550 mag for old lumens measured at 914 lumens or around there.

not sure iv never owned one, bit of a flashlight noob but i think iv made some pretty good choices so far….
i had the xtar on for 15 minutes under a sink on high today and it was just propped up… only got warm. but sometimes im in huge lofts and simply need more light so thats why im after something with a few more lumens.

yes i saw that!…. that thing looked insane  id have put a bid in for it but im also currently saving for a motorbike so watching the cash flow at the minute
edit…… and that light was far too special to be used as an edc…… i hope its found its way to a nice safe display cabinet

I like the E1320 UF2100 e-Tomic…… It’s Damb close to a 14500 in size, turbo mode at 3.5 amps is 930 lumens and a wall of light…. We need to get him to do another group buy !!! That’s a hot little torch ………

i would definately have one of those if a group buy comes up again

The .001 lumen firefly mode is the bomb ….
!!

Yep . And his soon to be released 14500 model does Moon light to OMG .

Hey jack…. We still have 2 get together man…. My bike is in the shop, got a new job and selling some lights to fix the bike ! I’m glad to always see you on BLF …… Hope I get cash to get that 14500 …… From E1320 ….

Niteye EYE15 is 500lm and very very compact for an 18650.

yeah im def now thinking an 18650 light because of the heat thing

Edc 18650.

I’m waiting on my host to arrive, but I think it’ll make a great edc light.

Good looking light ……
