I haven’t even visited their site. I was told I could contact INTL-OTDR on skype, and given a handle. I entered it and contacted them, but they represented HKE, not I-O. Sorry again for any confusion.

I’ve only been a flash light collecter for a year now…. I’m not up technically, but I do have some nice lights to compare……I occasionally buy cheap lights just to play with, but I do use the lights professionally at work. I routinely need to see 60 feet away into dark spaces and I often work splicing wires in cramped dark spaces.

So far I’ve only tested looking at cathedral ceilings

The EDC 18650 XP-G2 R5 is nicer than I expected… I honestly didn’t expect much from a cheap light. I ordered the 3 mode. I gave it a redilast 2600mah….

It’s less bright, but floodier than a Maelstrom X10. Obviously the X10 is 3X the size and in a different league…

It blows a Xeno E03 XML T6 + 14500 away in every thing, but size. The EDC 18650 has better usable light in all modes. The white of the EDC led out shines the Xeno.

My favorite edc: Quark XP-G + 14500 will take a back seat to this light….atleast for testing :wink: My Quark looks noticably greener next to the EDC’s larger and significantly brighter hot spot.

First impression is great!…….I hope it lasts :wink:

Quick comparison shots ….I know this is not ideal, but its some thing….20 feet away, tilted ceiling.

EDC 18650 is always on top in the pics, the bottom half is the light as stated. Its hard to tell there is another light on the bottom of the pics, except for the X10.

The pill isn't too thin like some of the other lights in this category. The threads has very good registration to the body for good heat dissipation.

Overall quality is really good. Definately HAIII coating as it has already slipped out of my hands onto concrete with no scratches.

The LED is 16mm and driver is the common 17mm size which makes it easily upgradeable.

I highly recommend this torch. In summary it has good quality, cigar sized/design, easily moddable, & the one of the best candidates for the perfect 18650 EDC.

I got the U2 version and the bezel was glued on (Hank said that's what they did). It looks like you got the XML (T6 or U2) version based on the 105C driver shown. Was yours glued? My light gets hot real fast and is now not working well until it warms up (won't come on initially, then flickers, then becomes stable). I PMed Hank - see what he recommends - I don't want to attempt to de-glue the bezel and take a look until I here from him.

I took it out in the back yard tonight and gave it a 100 yard test……My quark xp-g 14500 and this EDC 18650 look exactly the same @ 100 yards… I can not tell the difference.

Now that you mentioned it when I took it apart, it looked there was nylon tape you put on the threads for plumbing. It must have mistaken it for glue. I wrapped the ss bezel around a leather glove, then took pliers to it in order to remove it.

On yours, I think the pill must be pushing against the reflector too hard. It can be finicky but once it's on properly with the proper spacing, I don't have any issues.

This light has a small reflector due to it's cigar design. It won't beat out a typical P60 reflector light in terms of distance. It's more of a shorter distance light <50yards or so.

Okay - tried a rubber jar top opener - big mistake, scratched up the end because the pliers apparently went right through it. Then (stupid me) I searched for a leather glove and using that, got it open without further damage. Soon as I took off the top, noticed a rattle - the pill was loose in there, not tight at all. So, I cleaned up threads, jammed in some heavy duty aluminum foil in gaps by the aluminum block around the reflector, wrapped the battery in same heavy aluminum foil (battery was a little loose), used Nyogel 760G on all the threads including the pill, tightened up everything real well -- now the light is working well. I can feel the heat going down the body now where previously it stayed more at the head.

It still gets really warm though quickly on high. Just tried it for 3 mins and it's hotter than my cheap Sipik 73 (18650 zoom, good brightness) and compared to the Tank E09 running a 10440, it's about the same in heat, same time.

Need to get my hands on some copper foil and beef this up more - looks like more room for improvements.

Scratches shown here at the SS bezel, top of host -- my ignorance...

Mine was glued with heat conducting glue.

After applying quite some force without any other success than adding some small scratches to the bezel, I peeled out the o-ring with some very fine tweezers and heated the head with a lighter, the glue softened and with little force the bezel came off.

I added an 8th AMC7135 and reprogrammed the driver with my custom firmware. I’m just too pampered by my firmwares to go with a normal one :slight_smile:

After 10 min on high, tailstanding in 25°C ambient temperature, the case temp was 68°C (bad for the batteries!) and the LED temp was 117°C (according to an IR camera).
