New, apparently unique, dirt-cheap 18650 light at KD

3-modes, Cree, $10.16, sure can't beat that price. I wonder what sort of Cree it has and if it is a hand-held version of the Sun like some of the other 18650 beasts that are reviewed here on BLF. KD sometimes sells or even manufactures unique flashlights that DX doesn't sell, I think this might be one of them.

Hard to tell from the pics, but I'm sure I've seen similar before. Back in the Luxeon 3 days. It faintly resembles my 7W Golston but back then it cost about 3x that much. Here we are, it looks very much like an Ultrafire C2 which is the same body as my Aurora AK-P7

Those two look exactly alike except for the brand name of course.

With an XR-E P4 it says on QCG.

There are lots of lights in the same bodies - the Akoray K-106, Trustfire F20, Uniquefire AA-S1 for example. There are others using that body but I can't remember them offhand.

The Utrafire C2 and C8 bodies appear in lots of lights.

Are the ones that look alike made by the same company or are they different companies copying each others products?

Someone makes more bodies than they have orders for, someone else buys them, brands them and sells them. Some clone others' successful products.

Oh ok, thanks Don. BTW, do you ever sleep? I pop in and out of here several times each day and night (since I'm kind of stuck at home all the time) and I always see you here. Insomnia maybe? Just curious. Smile

I don't sleep a whole lot, but it is now 9:40am here and I'm at work. Something wakened me about 3am and I've been up and about since. Unfortunately today is going to be a very long day, I seem to be the only person here (of 4). Now trying to track down some information about a Nigerian group here and am waiting for calls.

Most of those lights are pretty easy to do an emitter swap on as they are usually mounted on 20mm stars. Unsolder two wires, undo one screw, put in new star with a smear of thermal compound on its base, reattach the screw, solder the two wires back in the right places. At that price it's a really good candidate for modding.

But did you see the specs? KD's random number generator in action I'd guess.

Length: 58.31"
Width: 21.67"
Height: 17.34"
Weight: 1.94oz

Length: 148.00cm
Width: 55.00cm
Height: 44.00cm
Weight: 55.00gram

Somehow I doubt any of these are even remotely accurate.

Man, that thing is a lot bigger than it looks! Must be a thrower: you throw that at somebody and they won't get back up. Must be made of aerogel or something to be 4' long and only 55 grams. Maybe it is a balloon and those are the fully inflated figures. KD's specs are terrible, to the point of being fraudulent. This time at least they don't make any sense and you can figure they are mm.

Ultrafire C8

Or Aurora AK-P7 or Ultrafire C2. There are actually quite a few lights using that body/head.
