US Based BATTERY SUPPLY From BLF Member! (Update 11-3-12)

I like this idea a lot. Batteries we know where came from is a good thing.

Thanks very much for your support ChiggerPepi and Muto.

Best Regards,

Bob

I look forward to seeing your prices. I am looking to buy some 3100 or 3400 Panasonic cells, probably protected.

When I see the prices I should be able to firm up qty.
Cheers,
Ford

Hi!

So far, so good. We’re on schedule to have our shipment on a DHL plane Tues, Wed. or Thursday! The shipping method we’re using usually takes only 3 or 4 days.

About the pricing: We’ll publish prices on Sunday!

We’re also working on a write-up that explains some of the specs and features. I’m certain that these batteries are AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN THOSE COSTING AS MUCH AS TWICE THE PRICE! We’ll provide links to our own HKJ’s reviews.

As soon as I have the Tracking Number, I will make that information public.

Upon hearing about the specs and the prices, some BLF members I PM’d said that I should advise people NOT TO BUY ANY OTHER BATTERIES until they see all the details. To remind you, we will be offering BLF MEMBERS a SPECIAL INTRODUCTORY PRICE.

I just saw photos of some our shipment and I’m getting very excited about this. The entire project is looking good and I’m certain there are going to be a whole lot of VERY HAPPY BLF Members!

Best Regards,

Bob

Awaiting prices and discounts

Thanks very much Rusty Joe! I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

all around. Best way to show Bob a great start is with orders

Im good for 4 x 3400mah 18650

And a follow up order for 8x

Thanks Bob and i’ll be watching for product and payment instructions

I’m still waiting for confirmation on the 26650s, more info on the 14500s and pricing. Maybe my questions have been ignored because he doesn’t expect an order from me, which is a self fulfilling prophecy.

Will you ship to Canada ?

Define “protected” — won’t discharge below a specific voltage so can’t kill the cell? won’t recharge above a specific voltage? (I think the first not the second; I’ve seen confusion.

Protected includes 3 protections: over discharge, over charge and over current.

This is done by mounted a PCB on the bottom of the battery, the PCB looks like this:

You can read more about protection in my anatomy of a protected battery.

A few quick thoughts and some answers:

Hank: I'm not sure if the "protection definition issue" was directed to me or not but I'll address it regardless. The protection circuit that our protected batteries use is the Keeppower circuit. It utilizes Japanese ICs and it is assembled by Keeppower in their factory. It is exactly the same one that HKJ reviewed in his Keeppower Panasonic NCR18650B 3400 mAh test.

lopedevega: We have addressed this question several times but I don't mind answering it as long as people want to ask. The problem is the law. It is currently not legal for us to ship these batteries out of the US - at least without going through a permitting process. Personally, I don't think the law makes any sense and I am definitely disappointed but the law is the law. Meanwhile, there may be two solutions to the problem: Solution One: We are investigating the possibility of acquiring permits. Solution Two: We might be able to drop-ship some batteries to one person in Canada so that he can further distribute them to other Canadian BLF members.

leaftye: Please accept my apology for not addressing your questions earlier. Regarding the protected 26650 batteries. We expect two types. One is a new protected version of the "King Kong" battery with a completely redesigned ciruit. Many, many people have had very good luck with the unprotected version. They seem to put out MORE than advertised and if used with appropriate caution and procedures, they have done very well in the safety area. The other 26650 is one I'm rather excited about offering because it has been very difficult to obtain. It is the IMR MNKE 26650 Battery. The chemistry it uses is inherently safer than the normal Lithium Ion chemistry so even unprotected, it should be safer to use. We expect some of them in unprotected form and some others in protected form. A CAUTION ABOUT 26650 AVAILABILITY: I predicted that the 26650 batteries would have very significant demand and (unlike most of the other batteries in the order) I ordered a much larger number than the factory can supply at the moment. The good news is the factory has more on order and tells me that they expect them in 10 days but I won't be totally happy until they arrive. You mentioned Sanyo and Panasonic in relationship to the 26650 battery size. I am not aware of anyone who has had any access to 26650s from either of these companies. If they become available, we expecct to have access to them. About the protected 14500, it is the Keeppower battery that HKJ has tested. I am very happy with it but it is not IMR. We do have access to IMR 14500 batteries but in this case (and some others), I'm not certain we need to pursue IMR. We'll see. Meanwhile, thank you for your interest.

Dark Side: Thank you so very much for your show of support. It means a lot to me! I believe you will be very happy with the pricing and I will set them aside for you but I really don't plan on "holding you to your request" until you've had a chance to actually see the pricing.

Shishiga: I'd also like to thank you for your early showing of support - and I'm as close to certain as I can be that you'll be happy with the pricing - but when the prices are released, please get back to me with a "RESERVATION". Meanwhile, based on what you've said here, I will indeed set them aside for you but please don't feel obligated until you see the final prices and place your "RESERVATION".

monanoke: Thank you very much as well. I will set them aside for you but please read the above two answers in the meantime.

scaaru, leaftye and AlexGT: It is indeed Sunday - here in Boston as well. Meanwhile, there about 18 hours left and with apologies, we are still working out a couple of things. To be honest, one of the things I need to take care of is a lack of sleep for going on 36 hours - so I'll get a little of that and then finish assembling pricing and assembling procedural inormation. I do still expect to release the pricing and some precedural info today, Sunday.

Thanks Very Much Everyone and Best Regards,

Bob
