Small Sun ZY-T08

Sounds great! And definitely sounds like it needs the mod! So it must not be the typical "direct drive on high" type of drivers we've been seeing used a lot lately.

I realize now the driver board must be really wide due to the two battery cells needing to make contact with the center contact on the board. Is there room under the stock driver board if someone wanted to add a Nanjg driver (say one beefed up with 10xAMC's for 3.5A) and still use the stock board for battery contact only?

Dang it viffer750! Just when I was trying to resist buying this one (actually resisting for now and post-poning the purchase another month or so)! Argh!

Don’t bother then. I was just hoping you might have taken a pic before the change.

Hey, off the top of your head, do you recall the resistor needed to bump the ZY-T13 to the same 3.2A as this one? I know you used a pot and not a resistor but what resistor would I need instead of a pot?

I can’t wait until mine shows up!!!

Can't really use the same current, T13 runs on 2series, this one 2p.

But the pot used was set to 0.7ohm to get ~1.6A, which being 2s is about equivalent to 3.2A in 2p assuming similar efficiency. So any 0.7ohm resistor will work.

I have ready stock of 0.47ohm and am itching to put it in my T13, but afraid it might just give too much current.

Just ordered from manafont. How is this light
compared to hd2010? The waiting begins. J)

I’ll let you know once mine comes in. My HD2010 just came in today and I love it! Its about equal to my UniqueFire UF-V6. HD is slightly brighter… only noticeable against a wall shot. The UF-V6 has tighter hotspot (1/3 of hd2010), and less spill. A couple more weeks, and I’ll see how it compares.

CR123’s?

Yeah I’ve had the HD for about a month and love it.

As a sanity test for your runtime graph which seems flat across entire lithium range, can you see if 1 cell has exact same output as 2? Or even better, it is possible to test boost capability with 2 AAs (directly with DMM)?

With 1 cell: yes, if the cell is good enough with low internal resistance. Probably the driver will not hold the constant current over the whole liion range, but in the first part of the discharge phase it will be regulated.
It will not work with 2 AAs surely, it’s not a boost driver.

Ok, I've been pondering this light for weeks, as it looks like it will make a great bike light. Decided to take the plunge today, have it in my Shopping Cart and want to add the extra $2 for registered air mail upgrade. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to add it - anyone here know?

If you are talking about manafont, then there already is registered shipping included. (for orders over $20)
edit:I actually tried to avoid registered shipping while ordering a ZY-T13 (i try not to cumbersome the mailman more than necessary) but couldn’t.

I placed an order for 2 lights half a day ago and they have already shipped.

Ahhh. Thank you Johm - I'll order away.

I have been wondering about this too.

How do you plan to mount it? twofish?

Probably in a TwoFake block. The elongated shape might make it harder in some of the hard plastic mounts, which tend to work only with round tubes. I have 3-4 other mounts I'll try as well.

Yep, exactly what I was wondering - how to mount that odd shape. I wondered about those "two fake blocks". I should get some of them anyway.

EDIT - BTR, where do you recommend getting them? Manafont have them? (Since I'd order the light form there anyway.)

My latest batch was from ebay (just search for handlebar mount) and sort by cheapest,
less than $1.60 shipped.

Quality was good (on par with twofakes from more expensive vendors) and shipping was really fast.

Hmm… then those cells hold up to better than I would expect over the runtime. It only tails off at the very end.

In any case, CR123a’s might actually work here.

Anyone want to test with CR123’s and confirm?
