Enlan EL-01. Outstanding knife

I notice that some of big Enlans (EL 01, 02, 02B) are available with the Bee logo instead of the Enlan. The new formerly Enlan EL01 are now Bee EL01, Bee EL01 KH or Bee EL01A.
The design of the Enlan logo looks better in my opinion - I think I have to buy some old Enlan’s before they aren’t available anymore.

I love my EL-01 (KH), I have successfully used it as a temporary kitchen knife and all around utility knife when I moved in to a new place for the school year. Only brought the essentials first time around and my EL-01 performed surprisingly well in the kitchen, didn’t get it too messy so that I could avoid having to strip it apart for cleaning (those darn screws!).

I love the ergonomics and the flipper/finger guard. Lockup is very solid and I have no worries about it slipping or failing. the ball detent is a little on the weak side, but understandable considering the weight of the blade. The only thing I would change is the pivot screw and perhaps some gimping on the thumb ramp, but for the price it already exceeds expectations as it is.

It's just too damn big .

They should make the same or similar knife in a 3/4 size .

It would sell it's butt off .

Moral panic fuelled by some of the world’s scummiest tabloids - so as to divert attention from their own misconduct. And populist politicians who thought that “knife crime” and being hard on it would win them more votes. Like a hefty minimum sentence for even being in possession of a knife.

Strictly speaking, any multitool with a blade that can be locked open (IOW one that is safe to use) is an offensive weapon.

As to how well this policy is working…

It isn’t. We just lock up more and more people.

Check the EM01 version http://www.exduct.com/Chinese-Folding-Knives/Bee-Enlan-Knives/EM01-Enlan-Pocket-Knife.html

Total length is 16,1 cm vs. 21,2 for the EL01.

What it is, the politicians and crown prosecution service have worked out you can prevent crime by simply making something illegal, I mean, everyone knows how good criminals are at obeying the law….

They also don’t seem to get that a legal system should turn criminals into law abiding citizens through punishment and rehabilitation, rather than turning law abiding citizens into criminals. :~

Too bad it doesn’t have the flipper.

Personally, I like the size of the EL-01 but others that are a little smaller that I also like (and have) are the SRM 909 and the Bee L05-1.

This one has a flipper, full flat ground:

Too bad it still has thumb studs and I’m not sure how good green pakawood would look in person. Actually pakawood (fake wood) doesn’t look that great (to me).

We’re trying to help BOAZ however  and he may like it.

For me the EL-01D is perfect. Any smaller and a flipper is awkward to get to.

+1

At the moment it is listed as a special limited product for $7.50. Here's a picture of the EM01 compared to the EL01:

Dimlux,

Thanks for posting the pic of the EL and EM 01s. I just received the EL-01 and love it, but I was considering buying several EM-01s as gifts and wanted to see a size comparison before I ordered. Your pic is perfect, thanks.

Here is a comparison picture of the Elan EL01 with the Bee L05-1 . The L05-1 has a full flat grind and feels so good in hand , and looks less tacticool ...

I like the L05-1 as well (and have it). The EL-01D (Rosewood) feels pretty good in the hand as well and look better (to me) than the standard EL-01.

Since I just got both the EL-01 and the L-05, looking at both side-by-side, the similarity is striking. It would be really nice if Enlan/Bee would use the L-05 and make it into a L-01 [same blade shape and grind]. That way you could have a trio of 01 knives; EL-01, L-01, EM-01.

Mmm, ffg. Must resist.

Mine arrived this morning. Bigger than I thought when I ordered it ( but I realised after seeing some of the comparison photos above that it wasn’t small). Yes, I know the idea is to take in what you are reading before buying, rather than just point and say “me want”

It’s the Bee version, and looks sturdy enough. I had planned to use it on my boat, but don’t think I’ll risk taking it out of the house, after reading up on UK knife law, and some of the posts here. I’ll just stick it in my shed, I think.

Great looking knife in the link - just too bad it lacks the flipper.
Nice anyway!

Does the EM-01 use the same strippable and impossible to remove torx screws of the EL-01? could someone post a close up of the EM-01 pivot?

I’m thinking of trying it over getting another SRM710, but what I found is that the SRM 710 and 763 have the more durable hex screws, unlike enlan’s T6-ish torx. I also couldn’t help but notice the 90 degree corner that sticks out when it is folded, and the lack of gimping on the ramp. With a few minor tweaks and drilled out liners this knife could have been potentially perfect. I suppose I’m just too picky about these things

I haven't disassembled my EM-01 yet, just adjusted the pivot a bit using a torx T8. Here are two pics of the front and back (clip) side of the EM-01 pivot.

Has anyone found a source for quality replacement screws for any of the Enlan/Bee knives? I’ve done a bit of searching but I’m not certain what size / pitch to look for.
