Review: Small Sun ZY-T08 2 x 18650 (Parallel)

2.5, 1.1 & 0.5 A currents were measured by shorting the tail switch with DMM probes. This is the current draw before driver.

244Hz PWM & 49% and 24% duty cycles were measured by connecting the DMM probes to emitter leads => real values given to emitter (= after driver)

Hope this clarifies the measurements.

Thanks _the_ for those photos and details!

So is the emitter glued down nicely (i.e. well mounted)? Does this flashlight need any attention? Or is it ready to go? (Apart from a possible resistor mod.)

-Garry

No problem. The emitter was properly glued in my sample. Tail screws were a bit loose, but everything else was good to go. :)

Sorry, but where is the ZY-T13 available with neutral tinted emitter?

Anyone got both, ZY-T13 and ZY-T08? Does T13 throw better or worse? (got T13 on the shelf now, throws IMO decent but AFAIK no STL-V2 class.)

e: Oh nuts… One way to find out - ordered

ILF has posted some comparison beamshots and the ZY-T08 does seem to have the edge (but seem darn close to me). See his thread here with photos. Or this thread vs. the fenix TK41.

Thanks Gary, looks pretty nice for the price indeed!
Just ordered one, 4,90$ after I slaughtered all my mana-points
My very firts 2 x 18650 -parallel. I have been waiting to find a good one for some time now…

Not neutral, but slightly better tint. Like 1D vs 1A.

Excuse my noob-ness :stuck_out_tongue: , but why is this light rated at 7.2 - 9v ?
If the batteries are in parallel, shouldn’t the rating be up to 4.5v ??
Am I missing something here?

You’re not missing anything. The listing has to be in error on this point.

Finally got mine today! I compared it to the lights that I have, and its brighter and out throws my TMART UltraFire HD2010, and T13 (same size hotspot). It almost beats my UF-V6. If I removed the white plastic piece, it would probably have an identical throw to my UF-V6!

Yeah! Mine should be delivered later today! I had mine shipped to my work and tracking showed an "attempted delivery - business closed" result. I've got my new protected Panasonic 3100's from KumaBear here at the office charging up beside me so I'm ready! Oh, and I did eventually get my diffusion film order too (although the guy sent it to my home address so I had some explaining to do to the wife!).

BetweenRides - you ever get yours?

Now did you 2010 lovers hear that?

Well that’s not how mine shows it… My TMART UltraFire HD2010 beats my T08

You must have got the weaker one.

With all due respect to Silverbolt, all he offered was some casual commentary. There are too many variables that haven’t been defined and addressed. Current readings, lux readings, battery condition, beam shots etc are all absent. Some people have under-performing HD2010’s. At least one other member has said the opposite as well.

I might buy this light at some point and find out for myself, but I’m not exactly eager to double up on throwers in the same performance ballpark. Anything new would have to stand out.

Well at least we have one that has said otherwise and in favor of the T08. That’s all I was pointing out. Nothing more and nothing less.

Garry: My status still says processed through Sort Facility in HK, has since 10/24. Ordered on 10/11. I'm not sure what's going on with HK Post lately, very frustrating. A 10/22 order from FF went through Singapore and was in ISC NY by Saturday. Luck of the draw I guess.

It’s all good ILF. All this “my flashlight could kick your flashlights ass in a fight” stuff is amusing anyway.

As long as you understand that the HD2010 rules so much that it could survive re-entry after being ejected from the ISS, and still be pumping out lumens after subsequently sinking to the bottom of the Mariana Trench, we’ll get along OK.

I have an HD2010 I could compare my incoming ZY-T08 to, however it's currently dead and awaiting a U3 and KD V2 3.74A driver (2 extra 350mA AMC's) transplant. Probably won't be a fair comparison. Then again, I could do the resistor mod on the ZY-T08 and then compare them.

Yea I have swimmed to the bottom of the Mariana Trench a few times just to say I did. LOL!
