Hello, I don't quite understand how the switch works. Does it have continually variable output levels?

Nah, it is a magnetic switch which works like a slider with around 15 levels. It may seem infinitely variable sliding switch but it has 15-16 levels if you took the time to slide it very very slowly. It is a nice light. I believe it is HA finihed (had it in hand quite a few times). You have to unscrew the body a quarter turn since the magnetic switch draws current! Drains the battery in a few days! Its very cute nicely machined and generally well made. It can compare to 200€ pro scuba flashlights easily maybe put some others to shame. Well worth the money if you need such a light.
