BLF DOWN TODAY?

I've been trying to get in most of the day.Only just managed to now. Anyone else have the same problem?

Me too. It was fine when I went to sleep last night but has just reappeared in the last half-hour or so. I don't know if it is the case this time, but the DNS for the .cz.cc domain isn't all that reliable and does go down occasionally.

It was down for just a second.

Last night down for me, had to go on CPF and look at reviews! I'm not ever joining that forum though!

Hi everyone,

Yes, we had a rather long outage for many hours due to the, errr, budget domain name service that connectes us to the BudgetLightForum. My apologies to everyone, I didn't receive any notification of the outage and had no way to advise everyone.

In the future, please keep in mind that if the .cz.cc domain service ever stops working permanently without notice, I do own the following domains:

http://budgetlightforum.org

http://budgetlightforum.com

In the event of a total meltdown at cz.cc, I will switch BLF to the above domains.

I'm still holding off from switching the site to these domains because Google is finally doing a good job of indexing BLF, and I don't really want to start from 0 again with our Google rankings if I can avoid it. Normally, Google offers a domain name change service for existing sites, but unfortunately they don't recognize subdomains, which is what budgetlightforum.cz.cc technically is. Additionally, many other sites link to budgetlightforum.cz.cc, so I'm still putting off the decision.

Again, sorry for the disruption! Thanks for your patience.

It's not your fault Mr. Admin. We all know that nothing works flawlessly and is perfect and that these things are going to happen from time to time. Hell, the other day my internet and cable tv went down at the same time...........

Now that's a major crisis.Surprised

the backup domain sounds better than what we have now,but stand by the site of authority,we should keep on going with budgetlightforum.cz.cc.then it is will be a place where have a good UE and pragmatic.

I have noticed the down times have been quite frequent, in the last 3 or 4 weeks this site has been inaccessible quite a number of times.

I would be tempted to cut your loss sb56637 and switch to your own domain.

Google will soon re-index, especially as you aren't subdomained.

Hmmm, thanks for mentioning this Transcersteve. I personally haven't noticed frequent downtimes, with the exception of the rather long one mentioned in this post. Could you tell if it was a problem with the .cz.cc DNS, or was it a downtime at our webhost? So far I've had very good experiences with our webhost, but even so I would like to check with them if the problem is on their end.

I'm always on (yes I know I need a life) several times thoughout the day and night and I haven't noticed any downtimes whatsoever except for the one on 3-12-2011. So other than my connection being slow on occation, BLF has been running just fine.....for me anyway.

Strange as I have noticed this site has been inaccessible around 4 or 5 times over 4 weeks.

I can't tell you if the problem was with you domain name server or the web host, when it was down I just hit the cross and thought oh well!

If it happens again I will investigate more.

Thanks I'd appreciate it if you would be so kind as to run a traceroute for me the next time it's down.

Cheers!

I haven’t noticed any downtime recently either but since there’s really no way to tell which way any two IP packets will take (peering agreements have more to do with politics and money than anything resembling sanity), that’s not saying much. One thing you could always try to eliminate DNS resolution as a possible source of problems is to add BLF to your hosts file (/etc/hosts on pretty much any Unix-stlye OS, %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\ on any semi-recent Windows system). Another solution would be to use an external DNS resolver, such as OpenDNS or Google’s 8.8.8.8.
