Review: APEX 5T6 (5 x Cree XM-L T6 | 4 x 18650)

Ok, i said this i have read on seller page on allibaba said: Perfect for, campign, diving, etc…
So i now know. it’s false and she’s not waterproof, thank you for making me econnomy XD

id rather buy another king :money_mouth_face:

It seems most flashlight builders (cloning ??) build their flashlights for increase sales / fight with another product other than practical possibilities of usability, durability.

Real world result show it underperformed than King which is more thermally enhanced.

Increase number of emitters doesn’t make noticeable improvement. but more buyers interested it because 5 emitters :stuck_out_tongue:

Also im wondering why those manufacturers doesn’t put 0.1$ or even less worth thermal compound between emitter board and pill. checked few C8 clones, zoomies all without thermal compound.

i tore apart all 5 of my sipik clones just to put thermal compound  . it was bugging me so much

This seems to be available now for 78$.

Hi the
I am a new member of this site but I am reading it for almost a year and I always try to find a good review here before I even think of buying a new flashlight (like now  ).
I was ready to buy the new sky ray King Black after reading a lot of reviews but I find out that this kind of flashlights are not good for my country

- I am living in Greece and almost half a year here we have temperatures between 30 and 40 C -
so when I am reading that this flashlight (like many others) give 2000lm for 5 to 10 minutes and after that 1500lm to 20 minutes when it reaches 70 C to 80 C , I know that these (minutes) numbers are much much smaller to my conditions.
It doesn’t has medium so if you want it for long time use (like me) you have to go to low (300lm) but I have my Uniquefire G10 for that kind of light.
I believe that manufactures shouldn’t say run time 1,5 hours for these flashlights but 9 x 10 minutes.
Now after a lot of reading again I believe that* Apex 5t6* is my kind of flashlight

  • it can give 2000 to 2200lm for almost 10 minutes and 1750 for a long period of time between 30 and 60 minutes -

I am writing down all these because I believe that all the reviewers like you should pay attention to the heat management of the flashlight and maybe put a new rating maybe for how long a flashlight works on high until you can’t hold it in your hand or how many minutes works until it reaches a specific temperature or go to safe mode.
It will be a great help for us to understand the difference between a showoff flashlight and a good one.

With a lot of respect for a good reviewer Jim

Interesting, and very valid point Jim.
However, the perceived brightness from 1700 lumens and 2200 lumens is barely distinguishable. It is a good point though.

It’s an idea for almost any flashlight in the market if you want to make it a headlamp or bike lamp or put a handle on the plate - tail cap and make it like a olight 6

I already made this for my TrustFire TR-3T6 and it works with any bike battery pack (8,4 V)
For Apex 5t6 or Sky Ray King you have to make different pack (4,2V) or use the body of the flashlight.
When you want your flashlight again you just unscrew the head lamp and put it in the flashlight original body.

I order the plate - tail cap to someone with lathe and it cost me 10 euro and of course you have to put the cable and switch and find a way to connect with (+) on head lamp (it’s should be easy for guys like you)
The dimension of Apex 5t6 headlamp are the same with Sky Ray s6 but with better light.
You can use your Apex 5t6 on medium or low when you are riding and on high when you want to get crazy

I took the idea from this product :

http://www.ebay.com/itm/CREE-XM-L-U2-LED-Headlamp-Zoom-Headlight-Bicycle-Light-Flashlight-Torch-Zoomable-/251060235556

Maybe a good idea for RIC

We're glad that you joined, jlogres!

So are these your new ways of welcoming people?

Hi Jim! Welcome to BLF! You'll love being here! :)

Good point, I'll try to take that into account in my future reviews.

Bingo! ;)

Glad to be here as a member and not just as a reader … tnx for considering my opinion

Is there a chance that the tail cap fit exactly to the head lamp ?
I mean can you screw the tail cap to the head lamp without the battery body, with or without the switch plate ?

I know … strange question

It doesn’t. Sorry.

Tail cap thread diameter is too small. :frowning:

Ok the

Thanks a lot for your time

I wasnt very impressed with my apex 5t6 from CPF but it is my first multi-emmiter and first big format torch.
My light is very focused with not much spill like I have seen in other pictures but I did choose the warmer colour option. At least it runs for about 4 hours on a set of batteries but that isnt why I bought it.

When I test it with my cheap multimeter I was getting 3a max dropping to nearly two once the batteries settle to 3.8v. So cpf sent me a new driver with a beefier looking coil but it doesnt seem to have changed the draw. Could the leds be duff?

Anyway if anyone wants to try and replace the driver with out taking the pain in the backside front ring off heres how I did mine with a picture. Iv busted both my hands before and didnt have the grip to turn it.

Drilled a hole where I guessed no components would be using the new one as reference (might not work if your driver is very different). Screwed in a long slim self tapping screw, grabbed it with the cutter on my pliers and levered down on the torch head. It was glued but once it popped came right out.

Cleared off the old glue and filed new driver board round as it had lumps on the edge. Glued back in with heatsink white plaster.

I finally made my APEX 5T6 Bike light project .
I believe that you will find it interesting.

Hi, could you tell me the size of these tiny reflectors?.
Regards.

they are 15.55mm height and 21.9mm diameter, any other measurement needed, pr is it enough with these? (it has a groove in the bottom)
