oooh I'm on fire - Maglite 1D build - Flames

I am fortunate enough to have access to highly concentrated NaOH which strips anno pretty quickly. However, that being said, I have "over done" the process once before and have to monitor the reaction constantly. The GS seems to be a more gentle approach in that it works a bit slower, hence more control over how much is being removed.

Thanks for the helpful information, Justin.

Ain’t that the truthTongue Out

I have to wait to list it till about 2AM or 3AM hoping he's asleep, but I think he's got an OL alarm set on the forum somehow, LOL.

I'll tell you, it was hard enough making one of those, I wouldn't want to make two. My nerves were shot by the third time cutting it out. I just wanted to run out screaming and pulling my hair out.YellSmile

Thats tough. :P

The long version of the Ohio Players.

Holy crap !

Those guys look like they got into a fight with a Bedazzler - and lost.

The four cats doing the "Rerun" dance towards the end were hilarious.

Funk FTW.

Update on the flame light in the OP.

This is what song I thought of when I saw the title

Nice flames OL

looks awesome. someday I might to try it in reverse, on a baked light

I was hoping it would go well, as I thought it would give many people an option for being creative with logos, names or graphics, on smooth body lights. I do not believe this could be done over knurling or anything like that, but any smooth section could be done. It will just take some practice. The tape I bought was 2" tape, but it comes in all widths and a small roll is not too expensive, especially if you can get free shipping. Overseas might be harder to get.

I debated about that, but I ended going with the flames aiming towards the tail, so when it sits on a shelf, the flames go up.

What, you still got hair? Will wonders never cease.

Actually, try taking the tape and computer files to a sign shop. They should be able to cut the pattern on their knife plotter.

Also, also, way too much work for a flaming flashlight. Just buy some cheap chinese lithium cells and you should have a flaming light in no time.

Seems like you did it the most natural way.

Perhaps the other poster meant he’d like to leave the anno in place where the flame is - and de-anno outside of the flame, though?

I worked part time in a sign shop, here in Tyler. I know the owner could do it for me, but… well you know how I feel about that. For anyone else, it’s a viable alternative. I really considered it after the second screw up, but I just bit the proverbial bullet and figured I had a 50/50 chance on the third time. Either a charm, or strike out.

This is what popped into my ears:

I did a masked/baked light a while ago.

The diminished contrast between the silver/gold made for a messy look, rather than the pure awesomeness that is O-L's light.

It's finished. Photos in the OP. Beam shots tonight when I get home from work.

Gorgeous light, Justin! Prettiest one you've made yet, IMO.

Did you start with a 3D or 4D to not have any knurling on the body and only the one joint?

4D

Justin, I love your work, not only is the attention to detail staggering but its a true non flashaholic light too. I could happily pass this too a family member and know they have not only a good light but a beautiful one too.

Danged nice work Justin!!! I Like It!!!
