Somehow I’ve got myself into the habbit of assuming that any custom XM-L build is automatically going to be driven at around 3A or so. But yes, we should be clear about this. Less than 3A would be a fail.
Since epacket is partly USPS, do you think you might be able to ship this way when the flashlight is finished?
The reason I ask is that, while the DHL shipping is only a little bit more and very fast to the US, DHL charges for taxes and customs duty AND a customs “brokerage” fee when we receive the package which makes the cost more expensive (in my case cheap ebay shoes sent DHL from China turned into not-so-cheap)
I would like to know the current on high for this model. If it is driven harder than the original version reviewed above, I’m in. Just the light for me, no battery or charger
I am not sure I would be happy with 3+ amps, because with PWM mode control the vast inefficiency of the xml at that current will also be present in the low modes while the one advantage of this light over single 18650 lights is runtime, don't spoil that please. I'd say 2.8A on high is more than enough (you won't get much more noticable light out of an xml above that current, you do get more heat and conductance problems in the switch). Unless Trustfire puts in a current controlled driver in this one ofcourse .
Oh, the name: Trustfire A8 -Budget Light Forum Edition- (enough space on a light like this )
I think a moonlight mode on this light would be rather senseless ..I'd guess a ....MAx on turbo ,a 450lumen runtime high ,a 100L med and about a 10~15 lumen low in a neutral white ,starts on high, with higher PWM than the last light .
I like the BLF Fatty too

I have to say I'm in for one as well. I like the original proposed modes and think a firefly mode makes this one serious emergency light. Should run for months on a single charge! High should be at least 2.8A and PWM should be at least 2000k+.
I like "BLF Fatty" as a name. I'd be a little more enthused if the Minis I ordered from the last light group were in my hands.
Honestly, I don’t really care what it ends up being called. But if it doesn’t say BLF Edition (or some derivative thereof) somewhere on it, I’m going to be less enthused. My interest in this light is as much about having a souvenir representing my time at BLF as it is about anything else.
A8 blf edition suits me, and as johnnymac says, the moon light mode on this will be killer, my m10 and jm05 clone run at 2.5a, I charge the cells once a month and use them daily to inspect under vehicles, the run time on moon light mode is verging on ridiculous. I love it. 8)
I just got one a week ago so ill have to pass. I already have lots of neutrals so its not a big reason to buy another. If it was going to have a U3 installed in it…I don’t have any U3s, and neither does anyone else except a few modders. A U3 would have really made it a BLF custom.
The problem with a u3 is their still just cw, I’ve got a few on the way with some 4a drivers, I expect I’ll see a lumen increase, the lights their destined for run at 2.5a but a neutral high to moonlight a8 should be something special. I’m all over this one. J)
This light will be lucky to be in our hands by Christmas, So how about “BLF Christmas 2012”

I’m interested in getting the original Mini driver, for sure, I like how that works.
Question, is there a battery protection cutoff on the drivers so they won’t over-discharge a li-ion?
What I don’t like about starting on high — a caution learned with Arc AAA and Sandwich Shoppe drivers — when the battery’s already low, power cycling the light kills the battery faster than letting it fade out in moonlight mode
I’m in for a neutral kit for sure, and would definitely consider a second bare light if it was a U3. The name isn’t important to me either as long as BFL is on the light somewhere. 2.8-3.5amp turbo mode would be great as well.
Personally I like the idea of this light for camping and hiking. Long runtimes would suit me better than ultra high modes. I have plenty of throwers if I need a really bright one.
2 amps on hight would be plenty and not generate so much heat.
My preferred modes would be: Firefly 0.5-1 lumen; (Low1 3-4 lumen); Low2 10-15 lumen; Medium 50-60 lumen; High 200-300 lumen
Starting on lowest mode please, to preserve night vision and maximise battery. Actually, a 3-4 lumen between firefly and low would be perfect. I put it in there to see how it looks. Looks mighty fine to me 5 modes it is please!
Hows that for the ultimate survival/emergency lighting system?
That might make it the BLF Survival Special.

I'd suggest cranking up the pwm higher than 1HZ since the pwm on the mini was still visable .. Why not ??
and ask for "no green" tint 3c xmls .. I'd at least mention the fact that people complained about the tints

Yeah, 1hz is pretty visible, 1 kHz not so much.

Hi there!
I just saw this in another thread about USPS shipping lithium batteries starting the November 15: http://about.usps.com/news/service-alerts/international-updates.htm#H11 (“when installed in the equipment they are intended to operate”)
Since epacket is partly USPS, do you think you might be able to ship this way when the flashlight is finished?

Thanks in advance and have a GREAT day!

Well, I have 2 TF 26650s already but needed a third one for my TF J12 5xXML. what’s the consensus on TF-005 charger? Does it really charge at >1Amps?
How about “BLF Fatty”? lol

Hi!
I'd love to get 2 of these lights (no kits) and China Mail should be adequate.
IMPORTANT: I can't seem to find the 2 lights I ordered during the earlier GB. How do I follow up?
Thanks very much,

I'd like to see the driver first.. also, I would prefer a good (and real) IMR cell over any currently available 26650 cell.
Tempted..
A lot of this has already been requested, so I will add to the requests for:
1. Very high PWM, wayyyy more than 1KHz
2. U3 emitter option
3. name: BLF Edition
4. Nanjg105C driver would be a big plus!
BLF Maxi?

I'd be in for one, probably light only, unsure yet. I like "BLF Edition".
