Mmm, imagine a MiniMatch 3xXML @2.8A each. That would mean 4.2A for each IMR14500, so its possible. It will burn your hands in 10 seconds, of course. In 10 seconds of +2000lm and happiness.

I thought it looked a little less bright than before so checked the batteries and they were indeed a little low, I'll try and get some more with some nice fresh cells...

That's a lot of light from the Mag. The mist in the air brings up the beam and hotspot nicely. Funnily enough, it is foggy here at the other end of the country.

The Mag certainly has a tighter beam than the KD dropin.

Those conifers (?Leylandii) must be a huge pain to keep in order - I prune them with a chainsaw at ground level.

Yes Don they are Leylandii and a right pain to control they are growing on average 2ft per year, We like to keep them high to block the view of the other houses at the bottom of the garden.

Match the reflector is just the standard REBEL one that came with it..

Very nice build! I like the beam profile of the stock rebel reflector. You'll definitely surprise a few folks with that "stock" looking mag :) I love sleepers...

Man, I've had so many Mags for so long, I wish I could afford to mod a few (all) of them. I have a brand new-never-used 2C without a "C" in the serial number I'd love to tart up somehow.

How long did it take you to strip off the anodising and polish it? I imagine it would have taken forever by hand.

"Scruffy dog" the heatsink comes from a guy on CPF called Der wichtel there's a link above.

"Don" it wasn't to bad to strip i just stripped it down and left it in some drain cleaner for 4-5 hours .

The main body of the maglite took the longest to remove and i ended up have to use 2 bottles of the stuff to completely submerse the tube.

The polishing part was pretty easy i just got a polishing mop for the bench grinder and after a few hours work it came up well, the biggest pain is trying to get the residue polish out of the knurling, so i still end up with black hands lol..

Since you removed the anodizing, how do you prevent aluminium from oxydizing and then losing that nice shiny look?

I'm surprised the drain cleaner didn't just eat the light.

It probably won't go dull quickly - aluminium forms an oxide layer essentially instantly in contact with air. If you get aluminium to burn you will rapidly realise that it is very, very chemically reactive. It is far more reactive than magnesium - but it forms an oxide layer essentially instantaneously that stops it burning spontaneously in air. Look up thermite too see just how reactive aluminium is.

It'd probably be a good idea to head to Halfords and get some clear lacquer though. Wash the light down with meths or similar first - then let it dry and spray it.
