Review: Small Sun ZY-T08 2 x 18650 (Parallel)

Thanks for that link, Viffer! I just ordered 4 packs of those (8 total) shipped for under $4. What a bargain!! Can’t wait to use one in my T13 and another in the T08 DX is sending me to review.

Johnny, what I found is it needs to go below .46ohm (lowest limit on the ones I got) to have a significant effect, I got more current by using crap cells. If they do go down to .1 or so ohm, I’ll be ordering a few myself. 8)

Guys is it confirmed that the T08 from DX comes with a aluminum reflector?

I think johnnymac will be able to confirm it soon, but there really is no issue with the plastic reflector, the biggest issue I have is the crappy screws used to hold the tailcap on. These need replacement.

I’ve also found crappy ultrafire cells give a significant rise in current readings like 3a compared to 2.4a on Panasonics, efest cells etc. Guess their good for something…

Yeah, I got word from DX that a T08 is on it's way to me. Might take a few weeks until I have it but I'll let you know what the reflector is made of. Honestly, I don't see what the big deal about the reflector is. Plastic ones work just as well and are easier to manufacture as well as easier to produce in optimal designs. The reflector does very little in the way of sinking heat from the light so material doesn't matter.

Wait till you see the pill, its more like a horse suppository…. It’s _kin massive! It does want a couple of dimples drilling in to aid fitment, but its a good couple of inches long with threads along most of its length.

Thanks for the replies guys!
Guess ill either pull the trigger on one from manafont.

crap i need new batteries if i paln to order one :stuck_out_tongue:
My Keeppower 3400’s are on the way from Bob

Received mine today from DX ordered on 29 Oct. It has the metal reflector. The only things I noticed was that the driver was a little loose about a 1/8 turn to tighten and I wiped the battery contact plate down with alcohol and got some black residue off it. My keeppower button top protected 3400 fit just fine. (Thanks Kumabear) And of course the spongy switch others have mentioned. Can`t wait for dark.

Mario, as I noted in post# 102, after tightening up the driver board, the Keeppower 3400's fit and work fine, so you should be ok.

Oh sorry my bad I missed that post!
Thanks allthumbs and betweenrides for the heads up.

Allthumbs please share your experience when you power that baby up at night (if you have the time)

Thanks guys

Anyone soldered a driver yet?
If you have used a pot, what kind of resistance have you used?

I added a little solder to the edge of the driver, to make it a good press fit. No difference in out put, I also cleaned the anodizing where the switch PCB contacts the body, no difference. I fitted a pot, minimum setting was 0.5ohm, that raised the output from 1.94a to 2.43a on good cells, and up to 3a on crap ultrafire Grey’s, guess their good for something.

I’m waiting for johnnymac and viffer to get back on the readings of the pots viffer found.

Mine read 0.45 ohm - 49.5ohm in a 270 degree sweep.

The ones viffer found are rated 20 ohm and and 22 turns of adjustment - much better resolution.

You definitely need to get closer to .22 ohm.

Let us know if you find something. I’ll probably be ordering weekend after next (payday).

OK.
While waiting, I tried it blindfolded with one 0.22Ohm

Now I get figures around 2.5 -> 3.2Amps or something like that.
I get once and a while the lower 2.4 something and when I cycle modes, it gives over 3 Amps.

Still I think it got better.

edit: those are with Trustfire Flames. Too bad I just ran out of proper Xtars, I will have to re-test when I get them again…

Viffer said something about the circuit being very touchy with regards to resistance, so not too good cells give a higher reading.

I did find out I have to order some Panasonic’s or sanyos, the cells I thought were good have touchy protection circuits when you get over 2.2a. :frowning:

Got mine today.
Measured sometimes 2.7A, sometimes 2.0A on high (0.95A/0.45A for med/low)
Flux: 660lm/320lm/150lm
Throw: 33kcd/370m

Unfortunately I don’t know what current the light used at those flux and throw measurements, but the flux measurements didn’t have much variance.

Hm. I wanted it to be on par with the FF STL-V2 and sell that one (because I prefer the T08 form factor), but now I can’t. I’ll probably try to mod it (when I find time for it).

If someone of you guys need a 0.22 Ohm resistor but don´t want to wait forever ordering from China or don´t have Electronics shop near you, PM me.

I can send some of those to you, probably won´t need all 20 anyway

this is mine coming from manafont today.
what do you think, is it a plastic reflector or alumunium reflector?

also my evgreen flat top battery wont work on this flashlight,

so i’ve been thinking to get this one Sanyo UR18650FM 2600mAh Li-ion or this one Panasonic NCR18650A 3100mAh Li-ion or i should go with the unprotected one.

which one would you suggest better for small sun zy-t08?

H)

Plastic. Any button top cells will run this, but the smaller the button the better.

Don’t worry about the plastic reflector, it works, be happy.
