De-Doming the X6

It still produces the same lumen output, but measuring doing the “ceiling bounce trick” is not the best way for throwers.

Nice tutorial… I just received my replacement X6 and i have a 10A driver ready to go in. I didnt get a chance to see the difference with my previous X^ as i did the driver swap and de-domed the LED in the same tear down. Tearing off the dome in time for this evening……after a Turkey Dinner

Happy Thanks Giving!!!

The bare LED might but not when there is a reflector involved. Here my paint diagram is. Keep in mind each time the light hits something it will lose some light.

err just tweezers with no heating? Cuz I thought other methods like the solder iron or stove trick worked better?

The SST-90 is really easy to de-dome.

Wow, that was easy!!! And it did make a difference!!! Man I was nervous… Thanks scaru!!!

Tempting but I’ll pass. I would like to see if you guys thought of any heat sinking ideas tho.

I was really nervous, but it was so easy just grab and twist and pull up… That’s all… and a better brighter looking beam.

Thanks for the post. I just got my X6 this weekend. Not modded yet.
Really bad quality for my X6. The lens are fogged and can’t be cleaned at all. I have to replace the lens with spare one, and incorrect o-rings size.
And the intentional mismatch of color of the body. It has two tone, dark grey and light grey. From the head, it is dark, light, dark, dark and light grey for the 5 main parts. What an ugly light, does anyone has this kind of intentional mismatch of body color tone on their X6?
The hotspot is ugly either if pointing at wall about 5 meter, there are irregular spill at the edge of the centre hotspot.
Really spoilt my expectation of Trustfire light, I have one X100, cosmetic wise it is perfect in all aspect if compare to this X6.

DENGOH where did you buy it? I bought one about 18 months ago at DX and came in perfect condition, nice colour, the only con is the LED’s current at around 5Amps. The rest was OK.

Will post later as I am contacting the seller to sort it out.
Feels like wasted money and should just get a SR95.

Fine steel wool and spit should clean it right up… not recommended for AR coated lenses.

Yup.

The seller agreed to resend me those parts with light color as the heaviest heatsink has dark color, he will need to find the parts. Let’s see how it turns out. So I won’t publish where I got the X6 at this moment, but remember to ask for good or perfect color match if you purchase X6 next time. Looks like there are some process changed that affected this.

Arghh! Almost did it last night, my pliers are 1mm away from the LED. Still struggling, do I need another thrower that can’t out throw TN31 or TK70? I am afraid it will fail or tint will shift to ugly tint.

Here’s my X6 after DE-Doming it…

Nice!

Do you know the distance to the antenna?

Yep, sorry… It’s 776’ feet 258 yards

Definitely looks more focus than my X6 and tint is still ok to me. Does your X6 out throw TN31 or TK70? I read somewhere but can’t remember clearly that de-domed X6 still can’t out throw them.

No it don’t but it does a pretty good job… Here is a link to the beamshots I did, just scroll down to the pictures.
