Any new D/C cell high lumen lights out recently/coming out soon?

Correct - I’m from the US and have a bunch of AA, C and D size NiMH cells.

One more question - any other neutral/warm multiple XML lights without PWM (that can use AAs or Cs)? Trustfires seem to have bad PWM.

Pretty much all budget lights use pwm for lower modes. Skyray king pwm is pretty bad on low, too. 200hz. Dry is around that, too.

I just meant why would someone buy a small sun q5 for more than a mag?

Mags are pretty expensive outside the US. Even in the US $25-35 > $17.

which 9xml are you getting? so with the 4xc size on the tr j18, it was less bright than using 18650s and 26650?

Since I just got a light meter

Quick and dirty ceiling bounce measurements in the bedroom

Light Lux w. NiMH Lux w. Li
TR-J12 225 (4xC) 215 (3x26650)
TR-J18 90 (4xC) 235 (3x26650)
UF 7T6 180 (4xC) 190 (3x26650)
TF X100 95 (4xC) 350 (3x26650) 310 (4x26650)
SR King 210 (4x18650)
TF 9XT6 320 (3x26650)
TR-3T6 110 (4xAA) 125 (3x18650)

The TF 9x XM-L I got won’t even start on C-cells.

Thank you Sigster for the great info!

The TR-J12 is looking might good on C cells.

How does the UF 7t6 compare to the J12 or J18? Kind of interesting it’s not called the 6t6 given it has 6 emitters (even though product description says 7…).

Mine says

UltraFire XM-L 7T6 - Brightness up to 9000LM

on the side and has 7 emitters

So, would you say it’s better/worse build/tint compared to the trustfires? Thinking of getting a super-flooder and would appreciate some comments, thanks.

WOW! I have ALWAYS liked the feel of C cell Mags. This one looks REALLY interesting. I also saw that, for another $9, you can get a tube for it that will fit 2x18650. So if you have both types of batteries, this might be a REALLY good way to go! You could use C cells if you want runtime or a light that can double as a weapon. Or, if you want something smaller, switch to 2x18650. Either way, another nice thing about this light is that you don’t have to worry about failing battery holders.

Here’s a 6 C cell light that just got listed online at Costco:

I’ll interject this’n…………….again. :open_mouth:

Takes 3AA’s, 6, or 9.

Uhh that is a brute! I like it :-)

The only thing about this light is that the price seems a LITTLE steep for something that isn’t a ‘big name’. I myself would rather get the UF-5C for $34 ($43 with 2x18650 adaptor tube) than this light for $100 - even if you lose a little runtime because of fewer batteries. Plus, I like the idea that the UF-5C can be big when you want it (with 5xC) or small when you want it (2x18650). I would also rather pay $10 (or so) more and get a Fenix TK60. I’m not saying thid light is bad. But at least with the Fenix, you KNOW you’re getting a quality light.

The aforementioned HP550 is also a MUCH better deal for $49 at Costco. Just keep in mind that some parts of the country have been completely passed up when it comes to the availability of this light. For instance, we never saw it here in Northern California. And Cosctco WON’T ship from store to store. I ended up having to ask a friend in Southern California to ship one to me!

How is the light output? Is it close to the rated 900 lumens? Also, how is the color temperature?

I would say it’s probably pretty close. No way to measure objectively, though.

Oh…also, the tint is on the cool side, but not bad at all.

Speaking of C/D flashlights, there’s always the $20 Defiant at Home Depot. It looks quite similar in many ways to the UF-5C. But it only puts out 550 lumens, and uses 3C batteries. Still, you could do ALOT worse for $20!
