Isn't the current drop more likely to be voltage bleeding off the NiZn cells?
Getting 12AA into a 3D Mag is tricky - did you have to bore it to make them fit?

Wow...I really was tired when I typed this up. Yes, the cell voltage does drop as they're used, but not as much as I had first expected. That's what led me to the slight increase in vf helping to limit current and indirectly, voltage bleedoff.
Yes, I did bore the mag body to accept a 4x3 cell setup, but in the end just went with a 3x4 array which only required opening up the tailcap a bit.
Good grief Match you're competing with the sun and coming out on top! Nice piece of work there! Brilliant idea with the AA battery array, when I first saw this post I immediately wondered how you would power so many XM-Ls with 3 puny D cells.
Congrats on a great project Match, please keep us updated.
Did you try if you can burn a piece of paper with?
Great custom work! I would have used 6x D nimh cells that would probably suffice to power neatly that thing... providing you had a 6D maggie. But a 6D maggie in 6xXM-L can easily be called:

If we don't blind you first we can whack you just fine...
Preorder now!
1st 10 customers will be given a survival kit and welding mask as a standard safety device during daylight use.
Another name I was considering was the H.S. Persuader. Every person I've shown this light to, including my dear sweet mother, has shouted "Holy Shit!" once I turned it on.
Im still looking at that thinking that the grooves for the fins could and should be much deeper............. hahahah! where do you find such chunks of aluminium?
At work we use 6"x14"x50foot sections as bus work for carrying large amounts of power to a DC arc furnace. This piece came of the corner of a scrap chunk that was sitting around in mud for the last 6+ years...
As a side note, I just realized that Boaz came close to designing this light for me awhile back in this post .
You Sir, are a very sick man! Are those ants that I see leaping off that smoldering tree just before the bark ignites? Those poor ants!
Well done Match. I want one! You might want to pull the battery pack out after each use to let it cool down separately of the light. Ive had 3 of my Powergenix AA's leak on me during heavy discharge.
