TrustFire F20 w/14500: to fry or not to fry?

i just received an F20 by TrustFire ordered from LightTake. the body says 'EDC 0.8V - 4.5V'. i've read an other thread stating some fry, some don't, and someone has even spoken for the LightTake version of this light saying it will work fine with 14500's b/c of different suppliers for the drivers.

my driver (that's the part right under the LED, right?) is gold in color with a red ring and a bunch of tiny holes. there was a description of the bad driver, but i'm not sure if this is it or not. anyone have a picture of the 'bad' drivers and 'good' drivers? thanks!

btw: mode memory takes like 5 seconds to set in on this light. very handy. but the clicky, as others have mentioned, is more recessed than it needs to be so it's not as easy to press with the ball of the thumb.

I got one of these ordered from lightake too hoping its the one that can handle a 14500. Seems I remember something about a red driver being the one that goes poof.

Look the driver, if it has a "red brigde joining 2 parts of the driver" dont use 14500, it will fry!

I'll post a picture of mine as time permits ... Runs 14500 fine ... [ picture of the driver ]

well here's a couple pics of the driver in my F20. ordered mid-February, received 22nd of March. same driver one with flash, one without.

The driver Old4570 has shown does not fry with 14500

I am talking about a driver which has a red path joining 2 parts of the driver

The driver you have pictured is the good one! It will work fine with 14500. I am glad to see this! Now I have to order one from lightake even though I have yet to receive my replacement for a broken torch that supposedly shipped 22 days ago.

Not the greatest picture

sweet! i'll give it a shot tonight.

yeah, Lightake was the slowest of three different vendors i ordered from on the same day. their stuff came in a week and a half after a DX order. gotta be patient i suppose.

tested and works fine with a TrustFire 'flame' protected 14500. nice!

I'm glad you got the good driver! Now I will have to try my luck and order one.
